 Divine Inspired Words of Encouragement

2014

February

Lately, I’ve been hearing a lot of Nina Simone’s music.    When she wails my favorite “Will I Find my love Today” I want to smile and cry at the same time. Her deep rich tones and the breathy highs just take you on a rollercoaster of emotion.   There’s nothing typical or trendy in her sound.  I love that her voice is unconventionally beautiful.  You’ve got to develop a keen ear to really get it.  It’s difference from the norm  is what makes it beautiful.

The love of the unconventional is one of the most awesome characteristics of our Heavenly Father that I hope to emulate.  If we look to the Word, we see that God never chased the tallest or best looking. Take for instance Saul, the 1st King of Israel who was chosen by the will of the people but rejected by the will of The Father.   I Samuel 9:2 tells us that Saul was the finest man in the land:

“…Saul, a choice young man, and a goodly: and there was not among the children of Israel a goodlier person than he: from his shoulders and upward he was higher than any of the people.

This made him the people’s choice for King.  But God chose a King to reign who had a heart like his.  He made an unconventional choice and selected David when Saul’s reign came to an end.  Not only was David the youngest and least esteemed of the Sons of Jesse but he was a stinky Shepherd with a gift for music.  The people wanted a warrior.  The people wanted a King of great stature and appeal.  So when the prophet Samuel indicates God’s choice was David, we were taught a very valuable lesson:  God values what’s inside so much more than the outside.

There’s nothing wrong with taking care of your vessel and we should all seek to be good stewards of our personal temples.  But during a season when many are making (and breaking) resolutions they generally tend toward things to better the physical with little regard for our spiritual walk.

Too often the world’s interest is captivated by what the eye’s see and sometimes gets lost in emotional appeal.  But the Word of God tells us to avoid being drawn away by what the world loves.  We shouldn’t even be captivated by the same temporal pleasures as others.

1 John 2:15-17

15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

As Children of The Most High our focus has to always be on deepening and strengthening our connection to The King.  Our relationship with him needs to be nourished and our fellowship with him needs to be fine tuned every day.  It’s easy to get caught up in being conventional.  But this month I want to encourage you to press pass the usual and popular and make some unconventional resolutions.

Love more…Pray more…Study God’s Word more…Heal broken relationships…Forgive yourself…Get healthy…Be Happy…Smile more…Go dancing…Sing more…Laugh more!

This year determine that you’ll never be the same.  Not just because you lost weight or started a new relationship.  This year resolve to pursue your purpose and destiny for God. Determine now that 2014 is going to be the year you stopped measuring yourself by the standards of the world and started working on becoming the man or woman that our Loving God desires for you to be.  You may not be the people’s choice, but you’re the apple of HIS eye.

Trust The Work He’s Doing In Your Life.

Philippians 1:6

Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

Know That He Is For You.

2 Samuel 22:31

As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the Lord is tried: he is a buckler to all them that trust in him.

Psalm 9:10

And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, Lord, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.

Believe It Is His Will Is To Bless You.

Psalm 32:10

Many sorrows shall be to the wicked: but he that trusteth in the Lord, mercy shall compass him about.

            Psalm 34:8

O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.

Understand That He Has A Great Future For You.

Jeremiah 29:11

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

Ecclesiastes 7:8

Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof: and the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit.

NOVEMBER

Be Grateful

It’s so easy to complain.  Gas prices, food prices, funny economy, dry job market, out-of-control youth, marriages under attack…There truly is enough misery to go around.  Everywhere you turn complaining seems as easy as breathing.  It’s such a challenge when you’re trying with all your might to encourage and bring peace into turmoil.  And if we’re not careful we’ll fall victim to it.

Look back over your last few days.  While I know you may have experienced some challenges that you don’t have the resources or energy to combat.  Or at least you don’t believe you do.  I want to use this month’s space to remind you that no matter what you’re facing it’s important that we not enter this season of Thanksgiving with murmuring and complaining.

Take as an example the Children of Israel.  Recently released from brutal slavery in Egypt, yet not having their desired meal caused them to look fondly back on captivity:

Numbers 11:4-6 (KJV)

4 And the mixt multitude that was among them fell a lusting: and the children of Israel also wept again, and said, Who shall give us flesh to eat?

5 We remember the fish, which we did eat in Egypt freely; the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlick:

6 But now our soul is dried away: there is nothing at all, beside this manna, before our eyes.

Whether we realize it or not, when we complain we are just like them.  Our complaints say to God “Forget about all the good you’ve done, I’d rather complain about what I don’t have”.  As we well know, this complaining earned them a good long walk around and around the wilderness and extended a journey that should have taken days into years (40 to be exact).

Now I’m not saying that there won’t be times when bad things happen and that you should just settle for being without.  I’m talking about your attitude concerning what you’re going through.  People of The Word have many examples of how to go through tests and trials with hope, expectancy and joy:

  • David faced an angry giant but he remembers God’s deliverance when he shepherded his dad’s flock so he had no doubt that God would take care of Goliath.  (1 Samuel 17)
  • Esther was confronted with the planned extermination of her people but she knew how to make the most of her access to the king to save a nation of her people.  (The Book Of Esther)
  • Daniel knew that a lions’ den awaited anyone who dared to pray to God instead of to the king made a decision that he would rather die for his faith than live in disobedience to God. (Daniel 6)
  • Bartimaeus knew that no matter how people tried to discourage him that he must get to Y’shua (Jesus) for his healing. (Mark 10)
  • Paul & Silas were in prison but didn’t complain.  They prayed and sang praises to God and their chains were loosed bringing freedom for them and everyone around them.  (Acts 16)

Our situations can be turned in our favor just like theirs were if we remember to do what they did.   Hope and gratitude are easy to have if we remember in our moments of testing that God is with us and for us.  That He loves us and cares for us and is eager to deliver us from all that burdens us:

Psalm 34:2-4 (KJV)

2 My soul shall make her boast in the Lord: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad.

3 O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together.

4 I sought the Lord, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.

Psalm 18:18-20 (KJV)

18 They prevented me in the day of my calamity: but the Lord was my stay.

19 He brought me forth also into a large place; he delivered me, because he delighted in me.

20 The Lord rewarded me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands hath he recompensed me.

Psalm 34:18-20 (KJV)

18 The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.

19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord delivereth him out of them all.

20 He keepeth all his bones: not one of them is broken.

In this season, just remember the good things God has done for you.  Be grateful for those things and bless His name!  BE GRATEFUL!

Stay Blessed!

Coincidence or Divine Intervention
John 1:6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. 8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. 9That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.
In the book of John and in this passage of scripture we are introduced to John the Baptist who is also known as the fore runner for Christ. If you read the book of Luke you will see that John the Baptist was born to parents who were up in age. As a matter of fact John's father was a Priest and when he was in the Temple about the work of the Priest he was visited by and angel. Gabriel informed him that his prayers had been heard and that his wife Elisabeth shall deliver a baby who's name shall be John. But because Zachariah did not believe, he was told that he would not speak until after the child was born. (Luke 1)
This shows how important it was that John the Baptist be born and be named John. This was divine intervention it was not man doing. Why am I writing about this well because this is the way we must look at things. As you read further about John the Baptist you will learn that he lived in the wilderness, that he was also called a voice that cried out in the wilderness. You see God is so awesome that he raised a Voice in the wilderness, and not even the father of that voice was allowed to speak any doubts that he may have had about the impending birth of the child to be named John. Even the father was not allowed to share with the people about his encounter with the Angel of the Lord, however the people had a feeling that he had seen a vision. After he returned home, Elisabeth who was once called barren became pregnant with child and she hid herself for 5 months but during the sixth month Gabriel visited Mary to inform her of the pregnancy she would experience.
This information is being given to you to show you that God is truly the one who is in control of everything. Do you think that the multitudes who went to hear John the Baptist speak to warn them about repentance was a matter of Coincidence or Divine Intervention. The same is true about you and your life, look at where you are right now in your life and ask the question am I here simply by Coincidence or is it because of Divine Intervention? We all go through different things in our lives. Some we consider good and some we consider bad however, when we learn to look at the lessons learned in the end we are blessed. Yes some of the situations that we find ourselves in are consequences of decisions we have made but even in those situations God provides Divine Intervention on our behalf, so that it is not as bad as it could have been.
For the first time in over 15 years the Government is shutdown. Instead of looking at this in a negative light I choose to look at it as God placing a Divine Pause into place. Yes I am affected by the shut down, but I know who holds my future and I know that all things happen for a reason. Some look at it as a coincidence because the house is controlled by the Republicans. Others look at it as a coincidence because more people did not vote. Others look at it as a coincidence because of our President and his desire to ensure that everyone have affordable health care.
As for me I am looking at it as a Divine Intervention and I am awaiting to see what God has in store. Sometimes things must be taken down to be rebuilt. Instead of looking at your circumstance as a coincidence, start to look at it differently as a Divine Intervention. Instead of looking at it as a Crisis look at it as a Turning Point. This is the place where we all need to activate our Faith. This is a time when if you haven't prayed lately now is a good time to revisit that part of your life. This is a place where we must know that the Bible tells us to pray one for another.

It’s Harvest Time

Galatians 6:9

So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.

Travel around the world this time of year and you’ll find some type of harvest festivals celebrating the gathering in of the year’s crops.  It’s a time to celebrate a successful life cycle.  A seed was planted and nurtured and now having reached maturity its fullest potential is achieved and the farmer’s patience and labor is rewarded with a crop capable of sustaining for another year…God’s Been Good!

There are lots of factors that play a part in determining your harvest.  However, one principal holds true no matter the location or condition of your soil: THE KIND OF SEED YOU PLANTED IS THE KIND OF FRUIT YOU’LL RECEIVE.

Most who sow, understand this concept and patiently anticipate the time to reap from what they’ve planted.  However, where spiritual matters are concerned, many are taken by surprise at what harvest brings.

It seems that sowers of discord, confusion and strife are often caught off guard when they begin to receive a bountiful harvest from what they planted.  In his letter to the Church at Galatia, The Apostle Paul is addressing a fact that holds true for the modern believer.  You cannot do what you want, live how you want, create conflict and confusion and expect not to receive recompense.

Galatians 6:7 (NLT)

Don’t be misled—you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant.

If you’re looking for a different result, you’ll have to change what you’re planting.  Plant what you want to receive.  If you want people to be more patient with you, sow patience.  If you want to receive love, you have to first sow love.  If you want to receive goodness, you have to release goodness.

Now some of you may be saying “I did that, but I’m not getting it back”.  You’ve loved and given and loved and given but don’t seem to yet be getting a return on your seed.   You, my friend, are not experiencing harvest...YET!  You are being tested or proven.

Getting to your harvest is the rewarding end of a process.  Ground has to be properly tilled, turned and tested before seed can be deposited.  Can you be patient while people are being short with you?  Can you love when others are bringing you anger?  Can you release peace in the midst of confusion?

Good harvest isn’t generally the result of just dropping a seed in the ground and instantly a healthy crop springs forth.  One of the key components that affect harvest is that period of TIME that passes between when you plant and when you harvest.  How’s your endurance?  Can you continue to do good despite what’s being dumped on you.  Scripture assures us that if we can continue to sow to the Spirit that we will receive our blessings if we don’t grow weary of doing what is right.  Can you continue to trust The Lord while you’re waiting for your harvest?

Every seed has to be fertilized.  And we know that the best and richest fertilizer is fresh manure.  Many of the things you are experiencing in this time stink.  It’s downright “manure-ish”.  You’re giving and others seem to be taking advantage of you.   You’re giving love, but people seem to be short with you.  You’re doing all you can yet you’re still being misunderstood.  Just know that what you are experiencing now isn’t come to destroy you but to strengthen you, to prove you and perfect you.   Can you press thru the mess and come out stronger?  YES YOU CAN!

James 1: 2 – 3 (NLT)

2 Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. 3 For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. 4 So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.

SEPTEMBER

GET UP…YOU’VE GOT WORK TO DO!

“Yes, come,” Jesus said.

So Peter went over the side of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the strong wind and the waves, he was terrified and began to sink. “Save me, Lord!” he shouted. (Matthew 14:29)

This story of the disciple Peter came at the end of what had to have been a trying time.  Y’shua (Jesus) has just heard about the death of his cousin John, The Immerser.  And just as he goes off to pray or get a moments relief from the crowds, he is confronted with 5,000 who’ve been with him and that need to be fed.  His staff is ill-equipped but with the help of a lunch prepared for a little boy, the people are all fed and strengthened for their journey home.  He then heads for the mountains to pray but is called back by his staff who are yet again in trouble.  So he takes a little walk across the lake… (IKR! AWESOME ain’t HE).  And there he finds them.  It’s 3:00 in the morning and they’re worried about a storm.  He speaks to everybody but one hears him and takes a brave chance.

It doesn’t take long for your best plans to go wrong.  One moment you’re peacefully going about your business.  Doing good, or at least what you believe to be good.  Following the course that was set before you and in a moment everything changes because of something you heard.  That’s what happened to Peter and I know you’ve experienced some similar things.  See if this sounds familiar.

You knew that what you heard was divine.  Yes, Jesus has called you out and you set your heart and mind to obey the call into the deep.  You’ve fallen short before, but not this time.  You’ve always know you were born to do great things and this was it.  You knew it was going to be life-changing and none of that mattered.  Regardless of the cost and how drastic the change was going to be, with faith and the supporting works you were ready to get out there.

You were ready to let go of everything you’ve known for this new course, this new move.  Of course you were nervous but you had no questions, no reservations, no fear.  So what if it was water.  Does it make sense? No.  But in faith-walks, sense doesn’t matter.

So you took that first step…only to realize that you stepped out on actual water.  Everybody else you’ve known drowned in this stuff.  Others only dreamed it, but by Elohim you’re actually doing it.  Nobody else had the courage or the faith to step out of that boat but you’re going to do it.  Your dad never dreamed of owning his own company.  Nobody in your family has ever owned their own home.  Nobody in your family ever considered college.  All you had was hope and faith and a belief that this was the time.

But then you feel a wave.  The water ebbs and flows around your ankles and you began to sink. Everybody’s watching.  They never believed you would walk anyway.  And now you’ve got to wade back to that boat, dripping in the shame of your defeat.  Your mind is racing and you’re chastising yourself, “Mama, Daddy, Everybody told me I couldn’t.  And of course, I didn’t. What do I do now?”

My assignment this month is to encourage the heart of anyone who has tried and failed.  This applies no matter what didn’t work out: relationships, business ventures, educational and professional pursuits.  Whatever you experienced know this:  All that really happened was you tried.  You stepped out on faith and did what you believed was to be done.  And guess what, for a moment you walked on water.  You did the impossible.  You did what others said you couldn’t.  Even if it was only for a moment, you did it.

What we can learn from those few steps that Peter took and those beginning steps that you took.  The Power of Elohim can cause the impossible to be doable.  In his water-walk, Peter’s faith and focus couldn’t keep him a float.  But if you keep reading The Word, we learn that the disciple Peter becomes the amazing Apostle Peter whose anointing was so powerful that sick people were hoped to have contact with his shadow to receive healing.  You may have to make some adjustments.  Maybe the timing wasn’t right.  Maybe you heard right but a trick of the enemy caused your vision a delay in manifesting.  Whatever wind blew you off course, it is necessary that you don’t give up.

If you’re reading these words right now, know that there is still hope.  If you’re still breathing (and I think you are) there’s still opportunity for you to dust yourself off (or in the case of Peter you can still wring out your big-girl or big-boy bloomers) and try it again.

There’s too much in you for you to give up.  Peter went from a failed water-walker to a powerful and productive Apostle who led many people to salvation.  You have no idea how great you can be.  But you can’t give up because of where you failed.

GET UP…YOU’VE GOT WORK TO DO!

Meditation Scriptures (Amplified Bible)

Philippians 1:6

And I am convinced and sure of this very thing, that He Who began a good work in you will continue until the day of Jesus Christ [right up to the time of His return], developing [that good work] and perfecting and bringing it to full completion in you.

Philippians 4:13

I have strength for all things in Christ Who empowers me [I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him Who infuses inner strength into me; I am self-sufficient in Christ’s sufficiency].

JULY

Isaiah 40:31 But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Remember in January I wrote “Well this year is different for me, I do not know about you but for me I am excited about 2013.  I am excited to see what God is going to do in 2013.  I do not know about you but I know that God has made some promises to me concerning my family and others that I know.  The word says that if we seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and these things will be added to you.”  Well here we are at month six and sure enough I have seen God bringing forth promises.

Tangible evidences that He is God all by Himself; that he is Elohim (God), El Shaddai (Lord God Almighty), Adonai (Lord, Master) and the list goes on and on.  The Lord has been showing us who he is, to the young man that is in the foster system but graduated this year with a deficit of $17,000 to attend the college of his dream, God showed him that he is Jehovah Jirah (the provider) when he touched the hearts of the people and that young man received a total of $17,500.  To the woman who was diagnosed with Cancer and received word from the Lord that it was not unto death, even through the remission and resurfacing she continued to trust God and Give him the Glory.  Three weeks ago the hospital sent her to a hospice and with stage 4 cancer to die, yet June 30, 2013 she returned to church, came in praising God to her God is Jehovah Rapha (The Lord that Heals).   For me who started at the bottom in a position at my job and now I am in the top position for my series he is El Elyon (The Most High God).

If you wait on the Lord he will renew your strength.  I remember when my children were little people would say how are you going to send all of them to college and I would reply “by hook or crook they will have an opportunity to attend college.”  Well my oldest daughter just finished her Sophomore year in college and my twins just graduated from High School and on their way to college and thank God it is not by crook.  I am giving you all of these examples to encourage you to wait on the Lord.  Some people say why do you praise God the way you do and all I can say is if you only knew where he brought me from.

I have had some Good days and I have had some Bad days.  I’ve had some hills to claim but when I think about the Lord and all He has done for me my soul cries Hallelujah Thank God for Saving ME.  It is like Jabez in 1 Chronicles 4:10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested. God granted Jabez request because it was made from a pure heart.  It was made with a desire to serve God and to help others.  It was not done for selfish motives so God granted Favor for Jabez.

God is not through Yet.  Believe me when I say there are some more promises that he is going to bring forth.  But don’t be so busy just to be busy that you miss it.  By the same token don’t quit because things seems to be hard for you at the moment, stay the course.  Trust in God do what God has called you to do, be of good courage and allow God to mount you up on wings of an eagle.  Don’t get too stuck on yourself; don’t allow others to bring you down.  Remember Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.  6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

If you wait on the Lord he will grant you a favor made specifically for you.  This is why I continue to do the columns, because I asked for a way to get His word out to more people and this is the answer to my prayer.  Please drop me a line sometimes and let me know if you received something from the Lord in the articles.  But if you chose not to write know that I will continue to seek God for a word for the article.  I am at the place where I know who holds my future and until God says differently see you next time.

MAY

Mark 15:38 And the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom.

Subject:  Beyond the Veil

We all find ourselves hiding behind a veil of some sort.  As females we use make-up in a lot of cases to  cover up as a sort of veil.  It does not matter how we portray ourselves, even the most confident women sometimes find themselves crushed.  For men they sometimes use their ego and pride as their veil, even the man who seems to be on top of the world can find themselves crushed by the words that are said to them by others.  I find myself thinking about the television show Scandal, yes I watch Scandal.  But beyond that let's look at the facts.

Olivia Pope is on top of her game, whenever there is a scandal that needs to be fixed she is the one to call.  But the main Scandal is the one that she finds herself in.  Her personal life is in shambles, yes this is just a television show but how many of you, men and women can identify with this concept.  How many of you can help others with their problems and then find yourselves in a quandary.  How many of you have the veil so heavy over your face that you cannot even see yourself.  In this scripture we see that the veil in the temple was rent (torn) from the top to the bottom.  This veil being ripped is symbolic of God removing the veil that separated us from him.  When Jesus died we were reconciled to God and we no longer have to go to anyone to ask them to go in the temple to offer remission for our sins.

We are not hidden from God because he is omnipresent, he is every where at all times, yet we continue to hide not only from others but from ourselves as well.  Once we remove the veil we can begin to look at things in a different light.  The things that we try and hide from others are exactly the things that keep us in bondage because as soon as someone finds out your weak spot they will continue to use it to break you down.  Now do not get me wrong I am not saying that you should tell everyone your business, what I am saying is that we all need to take an introspective look at ourselves.  The good and the bad and we must be honest about who we are.  Once we do that then we can begin to start the process to become a better person.  We can begin the process to become a stronger person.

Fantasia latest song is “Lose to Win” it is a great song and although she is talking about love, in life there are some things that we must lose in order to win.  What is it that you had to lose, or that you must lose in order to win?  What is it that is holding you back?  What can you do that will help you on the road to gain that healing that you have been praying for and seeking God for?  We pray and ask God to move on our behalf but are we doing what we need to do so that when God opens that door you are ready to walk through.  Ladies if you are praying asking God to send you a husband what are you doing to prepare for the day when he arrive?  Has he arrived but you have such a thick veil over your face that you do not recognize that he is there?

Men have you been praying for God to send you the woman that will be your wife, but you have such a heavy veil not only over your face but over your heart.  Sometimes men portray the role that nobody can touch their heart.  That no woman will ever be able to “tie them down” when in reality it's your insecurity that is causing you not to trust again.  So let's make a pledge to start with the proverbial “man or woman” in the mirror.  Let's start the healing process so when a brother or a sister approach us we can truly give a helping hand from a healthy source.  Let's be honest enough to say, when we need assistance, to admit that today I am not strong enough to carry you and me but together we will move forward.

APRIL

John 19:30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, it is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

After thinking about Passion Week, the last week of Jesus life I got to thinking about just how much Jesus had given up for us.  So starting from the last word of Jesus from the cross let’s take a look at what he did for us.

For a subject this month I would like to use We’re on the Home Stretch.

From the time of Jesus conception in his mother’s womb, he was heading to the cross where he would give up his life for us.  Many people would say why didn’t he just give up before he got there.  Why would he allow them to hang him on a tree, well because from the time of his birth to the time of his death Jesus was here for this purpose.

At any time, he could have ended the treatment and the disrespect that he was receiving but he knew he was here for a purpose and he was about his Father’s business.  At any time, he could have called the angels down but he knew he had a purpose he was here for a reason.  In the time that Jesus was here he turned water into wine, healed the sick, gave sight to the blind, raised the dead, healed the epileptic boy, cleansed lepers, walked on the water, healed both the hemorrhaging woman and the woman with the infirmity.  This is just a small sample of the miracles that Jesus did while on this earth, yet there was more that he had to do.  There was more that needed to be done for us to enter into the Home Stretch.

The final stretch began with the betrayal of Jesus by Judas.  This triggers the final acts that lead us to the cross.  Judas betrayed Jesus for 30 pieces of Silver however, Jesus knew Judas was going to betray him.  He could have ended it all right there in the guest chamber where they had the Passover, and Judas would never have been able to betray him but you see Jesus was here for a purpose and he was about his Father’s business.

Therefore, Judas was allowed to go and do what he had to do in order for Jesus to do what he came to do.   After Judas betrayed Jesus they came to get him, and as you know Peter was like you have to take him over me, and he cut off the right ear of the high priest‘s servant.  This was another feat that had to be carried out because Jesus showed compassion to the high priest’s servant when he healed his ear, this was another place where Jesus could have ended it all there.

For he said in Matthew 26:53 and I am paraphrasing but look it up, he said do you think that I cannot pray now to my Father and receive more than Twelve legions of angels.  But he knew the servants were doing what they needed to do in order for him to arrive at his final destination, it was also an opportunity for him to once again re-enforce that he was about his Father‘s Business.

In His obedience He told Peter to put up his sword and asked the question the cup which my father have given me shall I not drink of it?  Therefore, Jesus allowed them to take him because he had more people that needed to have their Jesus moment.  He had to show them that He was who He said he was.  So he allowed, them to take him into custody.  Jesus had to travel down the home stretch because it was on the home stretch that he had an appointment with Annas, the father in law to Caiaphas the high priest at the time and the one giving counsel to the Jews.

After Annas questioned Jesus, he then sent him bound to Caiaphas after leaving Caiaphas Jesus was then lead to the hall of judgment.  It was during this was the time when Peter denied Jesus thrice as forewarned by Jesus, this shows us that sometimes in our darkest hour the only person we can really depend on being there is Our Heavenly Father.  Don’t get me wrong, sometimes fear get the best of us, and that is what happened in Peter’s case.  Next Jesus had an appointment with Pilate, after Pilate heard, the crowd cry Crucify Him being afraid he took Jesus back into the Hall of Judgment and said why do you not answer me knowing I have the power to crucify thee and the power to release thee.

Jesus  said you have no power over me unless it is given from above.  It was then that Pilate turned him over to the people to crucify him.  He had been beaten and scourged and had a crown of thorns placed on His brows and a Purple Robe around his beaten and bloody body.  He was weak yet he had to carry his own cross as they led him to Golgotha.

I know when a person is running a race and they enter into their last lap this is called the Home Stretch.  Or in baseball when they go around third base this is call the home stretch.  I don’t know about you but I know that there is a sense of excitement in the air because they are coming down the homestretch.  So let’s just recap the events of what that homestretch looked like.  He started by Praying for all of us, oh yeah a lot of people say all of them, but he was praying for all of us because he knew we would need it when he said Father forgive them for they know not what they do.  Next, he responded to the Criminal on the cross and said Today you should be with me in Paradise, he gave him forgiveness, which goes to show that God is a Just God and is Just to Forgive.    He looked down at His loving mother, he showed us what it means to honor our mother, and our father when he told his mother, Woman behold thy Son, and he told his beloved disciple behold thy mother.  He was putting his mother’s care into the hands of someone he knew he could trust to care for her as if she was his own mother.  As far as honoring his Father, he did that every day of his life for he was about his Father’s Business and through his obedience.

We see that he felt Forsaken of the Father and he called out, we see here that the Father had turned his back because of the weight of our sins upon Jesus.  This is to reinforce the fact that sin separates us from our Heavenly Father and this truly was the darkest hours of Christ on the Cross.  Next, He showed his human side when he said I Thirst, you all probably thought he meant for a physical thirst but his thirst was to give you the living water.  It was an act of outreach for you.  Finally, we get to the place when Jesus reviewed everything he had done, yet there was still another thing to be completed.  Jesus told us in John 10:17-18 that he must lay down his life because no man had the power to take it, read it later that he must give it up.  Therefore, Jesus being on the Home Stretch, when he received the vinegar said “It is finished” and he bowed his head, and gave up the Ghost.

MARCH

In honor of Women’s History Month, this article is dedicated to the Gracious Women of God.  If you would please turn your attention to Proverbs 11:16 A gracious woman retaineth honour: and strong men retain riches.  Usually we speak about the Proverbs 31 woman but today we are going to dwell into what a Proverbs 11 woman is, shall we begin.

The scripture says A gracious woman retained honour

For the Subject I would like to use - Gracious Woman of God, Where Are You

Now the first thing we must realize is that this question is not only dealing with where you are physically located or even where you are spiritually located, but it also deals with where you are emotionally as well as mentally and are you on the track to becoming the Gracious Woman of God that you have been called to be.  In order to go further we must first explain what Gracious means

Gracious

            1.  Pleasantly kind, benevolent, or courteous.

            2.  Characterized by good taste, comfort or luxury:

            3.  Indulgent in a pleasantly condescending way, esp. to inferiors

            4.  Merciful or Compassionate:

            5.  Fortunate or Happy

Hmm so a gracious woman has great qualities.  As I began to study and began to seek God for a word for the Women, the spirit of the Lord started pointing out different things.  The type of things that makes a woman Gracious; things that he has placed in women to make women gracious women.  Things such as the ability to love, the ability to nurture, the ability to be mothers, the ability to be Ladies and the ability to show compassion in the darkest of hours.  The spirit of the Lord said we need to realize what he has called us to be and stop trying to be what we think we should be or what others say we should be.

The spirit of the Lord said He called women to be women.  The spirit of the Lord said he called women to be mothers and not fathers.  Ladies you cannot teach your son how to be a man, you can teach him how to respect women.  However, you cannot teach him how to be a man so if you have a son and the father wants to be in his life, let him.  If he do not want to be in his life then there are some good real men of God that would gladly step up and be mentors to those young men.  I heard the Spirit of the Lord say just because those men are mentoring to your sons do not mean they have to “mentor” to you.  As a matter of fact if the only reason they are trying to be a mentor to your sons is to get close to you then their motives are wrong and you need to find another mentor.

The Lord said he created ladies to be loved not to be abused and misused.  The Lord said do you know how precious you are to HIM gracious woman of God.  The spirit of the Lord reminded me that he knows that sometimes we mess up.  He reminded me that sometimes the things that should be the easiest are not always that easy, for instance He promised Abraham that he would give him a son by his wife Sarai. Sarai got impatient and sent Hagar in to help God out, instead of waiting.  Now I know someone said why was it so hard for her to just wait?  Well the truth is God has made some promises to us and we are finding it hard to wait.  God knows that because of some of our decisions in life the consequences have left us battered and bruised.

The Spirit of the Lord said He did not create you to be a side thought, to be an after thought, to be treated as scum on the bottom of someone shoe.  He did not make you to be the other woman, smiling in come cases, in the wife’s face and know you are sleeping with her husband.  Yet there is no conviction, there is a problem.  Don’t get too comfortable married women; he did not make you to be a door mat.  When that man took you for his wife, he said for better or worse, in sickness and in health, till death do us part.  That is supposed to mean something, yet some of you allow a man to bring another woman into the bed talking about that’s a dream he has always had.  You are better than that, the word of God says that the Marriage Bed is Undefiled, and it is as long as you take the Marriage as God has intended it to be.  Bringing women into your relationship as a gift to your husband is defiling the marriage bed.  It is not a lie against God it is what you are doing in your free will determinism, then when the man starts going to see that other woman without you, now you are hurt.  Stop saying “I know he is out there but at least I am the one he comes home to.  You are better than that, you don’t have to settle.

Also your husband is the head of the household; allow him to be the head of the household.  Stop dogging that man out and showing off in front of your friends because you feel you have control.  You are not the man you are the woman, you are not the husband you are the wife.  By the same token in order for him to be the head of the household he needs to recognize that it means that he will treat you with love, kindness, and adoration.  He must understand that he is not to be abusing you or misusing you.  In the book of Genesis we see that God took a rib from Adam to make Eve to be a Help Meet.

If I may share a secret with you, I haven’t always been a Gracious woman, I know it’s shocking, but I can fight and I will fight the thing is now I’ve learned how to fight.  For I’ve learned as we are taught in the word, We wrestle not against flesh and blood (Ephesians 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places).  Nor have I always been the wife that I am now, the Spirit of the Lord spoke to me one day when I was complaining and said “You Asked For This”, so then I had to pray the hardest prayer of my life, “Lord Change ME”, and I had to turn my marriage into the Lord’s Hands.  I had to learn that even though my husband sometimes said something to me that made me mad, I could not always respond with what it was in my mind to respond with.  I had to learn to sometimes be quiet let him talk and then go back to him later, as the Gracious woman of God that I was striving to be and talk with him.

This alleviated both of us walking around with tight jaws, mad at each other and not talking to each other.  This alleviated the extra pain I was going through because I love my husband yet we were walking around and not talking to each other.  I just had to share that to let you know I’ve been there too.

But my sister there is some good news.  You see God is able to bring you from what you are to what He will have you to be.  God has a way to forgive us for our mistakes and to allow us to start again.  God loves you and He is waiting for you to turn your cares over to him.  He will give you a new start, look at the record.  Remember the woman at the Well did she not receive a second chance after her encounter with Jesus.  How about the adulterous Woman, after she had her encounter with Jesus she was giving a second chance.  You see the bottom line is that we all want someone to love us and to appreciate us.  The word says that if we seek first the Kingdom of God and all His Righteousness these things will be added unto you.  God knows the desire of your hearts and he knows the plans that he has for you.  You do not have to settle for just anything, trust me sweetie a half a man is not better than no man.  You don’t have to be the woman that he only comes sneaking around at night time when everyone is in bed and leaving before everyone gets up.

The word says that a man who findeth a wife findeth a good thing.  Which leads to the question that if God was to send you your husband are you ready to receive him?  Remember when Abram sent his servant to find a wife for Isaac he told him where to go.  He told him where not to get the woman from, and when the servant arrived at the place he was being sent, Rachel was there and she was ready to be a wife.  I hear women saying I’m waiting for God to send me my Adam or I am ready for God to send me my Boaz.  But are you ready to be a wife to that man I mean are you a Gracious woman or a Contentious woman?  Gracious Woman of God, Where are You?

Well after you allow God to do what he does best, take care of you and order your steps the when the question is asked, Woman of God, Where are You?  You can respond.  Here I am on my way to becoming a Proverbs 31 woman, because there (read Proverbs 31 in your spare time and be blessed).

Don’t Give Up On God

Scripture The Word of God

When sitting to type the message for this month, I had to go back and review the previous messages.  I was amaze to find out that I have been writing this column for four years.  It seems as if the years have been flowing by so quickly, but I also felt a feeling of gratefulness.  You see a little over four years ago, I prayed and asked God for a venue where I would be able to get his word out and to touch more people.  I am also Grateful that Raven was obedient to God when he led her to me to request that I write this column.

Your word for this month is Don’t give up on GOD

There is no one Scripture to give you this time because truly the entire Bible has the word for you and for your lives.  Too many times God is leading us in one direction but because we cannot see what God is doing, we sometimes find ourselves just giving up.  From Genesis to Revelation there are scriptures that admonish us to be obedient and to trust in God.  Adam was the first to be disobedient to God, I know people say well it was Eve that ate the fruit and that is true.  But it was Adam that the command was given to and in order for Eve to share the fruit with him means that he was present and therefore should have said NO to his wife when she offered him a bite of the forbidden fruit.  As a matter of fact the enemy should never have been able to get that close to his wife, which was his gift from God.

We find ourselves acting like Sarah in Genesis trying to Help God do what he said he was going to do.  God had made Sarah and Abraham a promise of a son but because in their minds God was not moving fast enough Sarah (whose name was originally Sarai) told Abraham (whose name was originally Abram) to sleep with her handmaiden Hagar.  From this union a child was born named Ishmael, but you see Ishmael was not the son of promise that God had given, that son would later be born to Sarah and his name is Isaac.

In 1st Samuel we see where Saul was disobedient to God’s word and tried to blame it on others.  The truth of the matter is if he had just been obedient and followed what God told him to do, things would have worked out differently for him.  I admit it is not always easy to do what it is God is telling you to do or to wait on what God has promised; however, it is possible to do because Obedience is better than sacrifice.   Sometimes we find ourselves acting like Saul.  It’s in our nature to sometimes go against what God is telling us, because we do not want to wait for Him to move.  Today the enemy is busy, if you look around at what is going on in the world you will see that the enemy is busy.

It is time for us to realize that we must not Give up on God because he definitely will not give up on us.  Look at the people of Israel, even after they had turn their backs on God; was taken into captivity however, they were delivered because God sent Moses.  Even in the wilderness as God was leading them out there was so much murmuring, complaining.  They were being fed manna from heaven yet they complained because it was not what they wanted.   If they had just trusted God and his promise to deliver them, it would not have taken them forty years.  Even Moses was disobedient to God at one time or another and he was not allowed into the Promise Land, however, God was merciful enough to allow Moses to see the promise land.  The thing about God is he does not go back on his word if he tells you something you can believe it, but you must continue on what you have been called to do and wait.  Being obedient to God is an achievable goal if you follow the steps below:

  1. Die to self, yes there are things that we want to do which we clearly know is against God’s word, it’s a daily event that must take place (Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.)
  2. Repent and Accept Christ as your Lord and Savior (Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.)
  3. In all that you do put God first (Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.)
  4. Look at things from a different point of view (Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto your own understanding.  6 In all thine ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.)
  5. Learn to Forgive one another for our short comings (Mark 11:26 But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.)
  6. Love all, not the sin but the person (John 15:12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.)

My sisters and brothers now is not the time for us to be disobedient to God and His Word.  You want to see a change in your life go to the one that can make the change.  You want to see healing in your neighborhoods, go to the one who can bring healing to your community.  You desire better, well go to the Master Provider; whatever you want God got it.

JANUARY 2013

Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Wow it is the beginning of 2013.  We have made it through 2012 and I know I have become stronger through the trials and tribulations.  I have witnessed some awesome moves of God during 2012.  I have heard of horrible things that have been done, but by the same token I have witnessed some wonderful Miracles.

Babies have been born when the doctors said they would not make it.  Women who have been told they would never have children have given birth.  This one man walked around for a week with his appendices leaking fluid yet, according to the emergency room doctors.  He made it within hours of his life ending and today he is still among the living.

There have been some horrible mass killings and some natural disasters.  We have witnessed this, yet we have been blessed to still be here.  So the question is now what?  Every year people make false promises to themselves and to their love ones.  Every year people take on challenges, some with good intentions and some just for the sake of having something to say.

Well this year is different for me, I do not know about you but for me I am excited about 2013.  I am excited to see what God is going to do in 2013.  I do not know about you but I know that God has made some promises to me concerning my family and others that I know.  The word says that if we seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and these things will be added to you.

These things represent the desires of your heart.  If God has made you a promise and you are awaiting his promise then you must first seek His Kingdom.  You must realize that every Promise of God he will fulfill.  We do not know when we just know that it will be in God’s time.  Now is not the time to give up and to quit.  Now is not the time to relax and say whatever will happen will happen.  Now is the time to seek God and to make Him a priority in your life.

If you have a roof over your and your family heads you are blessed.  If you have food in your mouth and  for your children you are blessed.  If you have a job you are blessed.  But with your blessing you must be a blessing to others, how do you do this by living according to the Word of God.  God asked Peter do thou love me and the third time he said then Feed My Sheep.  If you see someone hungry and you can buy them something to eat please do so.  If you have multiple coats and you see someone who is without a coat, give them one of yours.

Yes this year I am trusting God for the Promises he has made to me and I have enough faith to know that God is Able and he will do just what he said he will do.  Yes in 2013 don’t give up on God because he won’t give up on you.

DECEMBER

Luke 15:11 And he said, A certain man had two sons:  12 And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me.  And he divided unto them his living.  13 And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living.  14 And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want.  15 And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine.  (In your spare time read this chapter in its entirety)

Subject:  Playing the hand that you have.

In this patch of scripture we see that there was a man who had two sons.  One son was willing to work and to wait for his inheritance but the other one thought he was able to make his own choices and no longer wanted to wait for his portion of his inheritance.  So he went to his father and requested that his portion be given to him.  We see that shortly after he received his portion that he left his father’s home and went to a far country where he ran through the inheritance.  I can imagine when he had the money that he probably had plenty of “friends” that was helping him spend the money.

It is like a person who has a drug addition, as long as you have drugs the rest of the addicts are your best friends but when you find yourself with nothing to offer they no longer want anything to do with you.  The scriptures further tell us that this young man soon found himself with nothing and in the time of a famine.  It tells us that he joined himself to a citizen of the city he was in who in turn made him a servant.  If you continue on in the scripture you will see there came a time when he was at his lowest and that he was eating the same slop he was in charge of feeding the pigs.

Now imagine the people he was working with, that saw this broken man who had nothing.  This man who found himself eating the very food he was feeding to the pigs.  Imagine how they probably looked at him and felt sorry for him and said he was “dealt” a horrible hand of life.  When the truth of the matter is he found himself in this predicament because of his choices.  This parable is one that a lot of us can identify with.  How many times have we rushed an area in our lives because we thought we knew what was best for us.  Every young child expresses the desire to hurry up and become 18 so that they could do what they want to do.  Not realizing that it is not that simple, not realizing that once they become an adult things changes.  Not realizing that everyone who claims to be a friend is not really a friend.

It is very important that we be mindful of who we surround ourselves around.  It is very important that we take into consideration the choices and the decisions that we make.  While it is true that sometimes we are dealt a hand that is unfair, but it is equally true that sometimes the hand we are playing is as a result of our decisions in life.  It is sometimes a result of our unwillingness to wait.  It is sometimes a result of our desire to rush through life as if we have all of the answers without taking the proper time to learn and grow and even mature.

It is sometimes a result of our wanting to be a part of the crew.  If they can do it why can’t I.  It can be a matter of denial; you do things and say nothing will ever happen to me.  How many times do people walk around and say “Woe is me” without taking responsibility for their part in playing the hand they were dealt.  Be honest, look at the entire picture and answer the questions:

  1. What is the hand I am dealing with in life?
  2. How did I obtain this hand (Is it the hand dealt by life, or the hand I have because of consequences of my choices in life)?
  3. What am I going to do about it?

So what exactly am I saying, well be careful of the choices you make in life.  Take the time to think things through, cherish and appreciate what you have.  Cherish the people that are willing to invest in you to make your future what God has ordained it to be.  Everyone is born with a purpose; everyone has been given Gifts from God.  Don’t be in a rush to squander what you have, wait the time necessary for true growth and maturity.  Why?  Well because time has a way of catching up with you, so don’t rush life.  Also to give you a peak into what happens to this young man, he made the decision to return home and his father welcomed him.  Read the chapter and find out how he was received.

God Bless you

NOVEMBER

Scripture:  Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengthened me.

Let me read the poem that goes with the Subject for this month.

Subject:  The Rose that Grew Out of the Concrete

Did you hear about the rose that grew?

From a crack in the concrete?

Proving nature’s law is wrong it

Learned to walk with out having feet.

Funny it seems, but by keeping it’s dreams,

It learned to breathe fresh air.

Long live the rose that grew from concrete

When no one else ever cared.

       Tupac Shakur

I know you may be saying why this poem.  Let me explain to you.  When thinking about planting seeds we think about planting seeds in ground that has already been plowed and weeded out and broken up.  But when you think about A Rose growing out of Concrete you say what in the world.

Let me explain this to you, this is about something beautiful growing out of not the best of circumstances.  It is about how in this life you have to go for your dreams and go for what God, who is the author and the finisher of your fate has in store for you.  You have to understand that you must not and you cannot allow your circumstances to dictate who and what you are.

People in this life will count you out but God never counts us out.  After all we are all made in his image and after his likeness.  We are all given freedom of choice and it is those choices that sometimes get us in trouble.  There are also times when we have nothing to do with the struggle but God is still in control.  Look at Isaac the child of promise; everyone had counted him out before he was even conceived.  Even after God made the promise to Abram and Sarah it was still years before he was born.  People being people I am sure thought Sarah would never have a child (Found in Genesis).

Samuel’s mother Hannah prayed and prayed, being ridiculed and cast out as not having favor with God because she didn’t have a male child.  So in reality Samuel was counted out before he was even conceived (I Samuel 1).  Let’s look at David when Samuel was sent to anoint the son of Jesse that would be the next king, David was the only brother not called in to be seen by Samuel it was only after Samuel asked if there were any other Children that can be found in (I Samuel 16).

Joseph after sharing the vision he had was tossed in a pit by his brothers; never in their wildest dreams did they ever imagine that he would be the one that would have to feed them during the famine.  Jesus who came solely for the purpose of dying for our sins, parents had to relocate to keep him from being killed.  After finding no room in the Inn he was born in a barn, wrapped in swaddling clothes (which is really rags) laid in a Manger (which is an animal feeding trough).  Even after his birth when the wise men mention to the King they was going to see the true and living King, they were told to come back and let him know where the baby was so he can go and Worship him also, but he really had intentions on killing the baby.

We can go on and on about biblical people who have been the “Rose that grew out of the concrete”  but I want you to think about yourself and the people that you know who have not allowed their circumstances to stop them.

My mother was mistreated as a youngster who by a freak accident was burned over 75% of her body as a child; doctors said she would never have children well we see whose report was right.  My son Aaric, they wanted to put him on Ritalin but we said you will not, we took him to every specialist he needed to go to.  Vision Specialist, Speech Specialist, Occupational Therapist, and this year he is flourishing in his Senior Year of High School.

We must remember God is in control and when you allow God to order your steps you can do all things through Christ which strengthened you.  Parents you must be the first line example for these youth, watch what you are saying to them instead of discouraging them encourage them.  The word tells us that we are to train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not stray.  There are also some things that you as parents must sacrifice for your children, but it is so worth it.

Children the word tells you to Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.  This is the first commandment with a promise.  Children you must not and cannot treat your parents any kind of way, and that means everyone old enough to be your parent.  Also I understand that everyone is not being raised by their “natural” parents, some by their grandparents, some by aunts and uncles some by people not related at all.  But never the less they are your parents and you are commanded to show them Honour.

I was looking for negotiations videos for my job on you tube and I came across a video about Kevin Garnet. You know who Kevin Garnet is right, he is an awesome Basketball Player, but as I was looking at that video I was listening to some of the things he said.  He said his mother, who had three children, and was raising them as a single parent, gave them a strong foundation.  She taught them discipline and responsibility and the importance of education.  She did not want him to play basketball but that was his passion, morning, noon, and night he would be practicing with that basketball.

The mother went and Kevin saw her in the stand and she locked eyes with him.  He knew his mother was going to really take him down for his deceit, she had told him no to playing ball.  Instead she saw the wonderful player he was and when it seemed that the small town of SC was no longer sufficient for Kevin’s career to grow she relocated the family to Chicago.  As I continued to watch the video, it showed Kevin running seemingly alone along the beach but then I heard him call out Come on Jesus, Come on Jesus.

For the young ladies, Gabriella Douglas, the 16 year old African American Gymnast that won the Gold in this year’s Olympics, had to live miles away from home in order to train for her chance in the 2012 Olympics.  Her mother made that sacrifice for her child to reach that goal.

You need not go to the street corners to look for modern day heroes look right at the successful people you are around .  You have the youth that are in College and the ones who have finished College to look up to.  Do not allow your circumstances to define you, go for your dreams.  Trust God and seek him and allow him to order your steps.  Like David when he went to fight Goliath remember that you must wear your own Armor because someone else’s will not fit you right.

Therefore I beseech you, as stated in Ephesians 6:11 Put on the whole armour of God that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.  To the adults remember you have young adults watching your every move.  To the young adults remember you have teenagers watching your every move.  To the teenagers remember you have younger people watching your every move.  Let’s make great conscious choices because after all we do know right from wrong and allow God to be our guide.  Because believe me God does not make mistakes, there is a purpose and a plan for everyone of you, don’t let anyone tell you any different.

Let’s see what God words says about you, in Genesis 1:26 the A portion God consulted with Jesus and said “Let us make man in our image and after our likeness”.  This was on the sixth day and as you continue to see everything that God did on that day in verse 31: God declared his creation for that day as Very Good.  The next thing to remember is you are Fearfully and Wonderfully made, Psalm 139:14 the b clause.  Finally as read earlier God  said in Jeremiah 29:11 (KJV)

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.  Man will say all manner of things against you but you remember God says differently.  You must remember that God is the author and the finisher of our fate.  He is the beginning and the end.  The Alpha and the Omega.  He is the Great I am and he is the Rose of Sharon.

Please also remember it takes a Team to Make a Dream.

God Bless you ,

OCTOBER

The Center Piece

Scripture for this month can be found in Genesis 2:7 And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.  (Note from the beginning you already had a portion of God in you)

One night the Lord showed me a puzzle.  I wondered for days where he was taking me with this puzzle.  He was showing me how with puzzles the pieces sometimes become lost or frayed.  Different things that we go through in life breaks away pieces of the puzzle, drug addiction, alcoholism, heartache, divorce, problems with our children, problems at work, problems finding work, etc.

The very next morning after speaking to a lady about bringing the Word at an outreach effort, the Lord revealed to me the Center Piece of the puzzle he was showing me.  That center piece is Christ who freely laid down his life for all of us.  I said “God why use a puzzle, and He said because it’s something that everyone can understand.

Some of you are struggling not only physically, emotionally, mentally or even financially but you are also struggling spiritually.  You are trying to figure out what is missing.  Why it is that life seems to be so hard for you, well do you have the center piece of your puzzle?

For those of you still wondering why a puzzle, let me ask you this?  How do you put puzzles together?  Do you start by first completing the frame?  Or do you start by completing one corner section at a time?  Perhaps you do one whole side then work your way from there?  Well I was wondering how God would put our puzzle together.

Let’s look at the Center Piece, Jesus is the center piece and once you accept him as your Savior things began to change.  You may look the same on the outside but there is something on the inside that begins to change.  Let’s go to the scripture where you will find in Romans 10:9 If thou shalt confess with thy mouth and believe in thy heart that Jesus died and he rose again thou shalt be saved.  Verse 10 For it is with the heart that one believeth unto Righteousness and with the mouth confession is made.  So when you accept Jesus as your Savior God begins to reconstruct your puzzle from the Inside Out.

There is an inward change that begins to happen.  When God starts to recreate your puzzle from the inside out, no matter what you are going through you will be able to find a Peace that surpasses all your understandings because it is Jesus that is holding you together.

You see in Genesis when God created the heavens and the earth He said that it was good.  Continue to read on into Genesis and you will see that on the Sixth Day God conferred with Jesus and said “Let Us make Man in our image and after our likeness”, and God then said about His creation of us that it was “Very Good”, then when you go to Genesis Chapter 2 verse 7 we see that God breathed life into His nostril and he became a living Soul.  You see it was the breath of life that made us a living Soul.

So let’s travel on because later on in the book of Genesis you will see that man fell and sin entered the world, through the disobedience of Adam.  Some great arguments have been argued because of this the men blamed Eve, even Adam blamed Eve where the women blamed Adam because he was the one the command was given too, but that is for another message lol.  The bottom line is that God knew that Man would one day be disobedient so he already had a plan for Redemption that plan was and still is Jesus, in your spare time read Romans chapter 5 and you will see this to be true.

You can change your appearance on the outside, you can change clothes, you can cut your hair, you can add hair into your hair, you can put on makeup, but it is all a Façade.  However, when you accept Jesus as your Savior, the change begins on the inside and only God can reconstruct your puzzle from the center piece out.   Only God can create the Masterpiece that he has created you to be.  Picasso and Michael Angelo have nothing on creating Masterpieces compared to God.

You may feel a little frazzle around the edge but you can rest assure that your center piece is there and still replacing your puzzle pieces.  The people around you will begin to wonder what is different about you, because you now have Jesus as your Savior.  Some of them will even leave you because they will say you have become Holier than Thou but its ok because God is working a wonder in you, he is removing the extra unnecessary pieces of your puzzle, he is replacing the parts that have been lost, he is also repairing the parts that has been broken.

Now I am not saying it is going to be an overnight change but I am saying it will be a wonderful, masterful change.  For those of you who have accepted Jesus as you Savior yet you find yourselves still struggling, allow me to encourage you, YOU Win in the end.  We all have challenges, but God made us a promise that NO Weapon formed against us will prosper, He never said they would not be formed but He did say they would not prosper so hold on my sister and my brother, because God is still reconstructing your puzzle from the Center Piece Out.  God bless you all.

SEPTEMBER

The Importance of Letting Go

(In other words The Art of Forgiveness)

Matthew 6:14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.  (KJV)

There is nothing more eye opening than the day of a Funeral.  Why do I say this I know you may be wondering?  Well because death is an appointment we all must meet one day.  It is also the end of opportunities with that person but not with others.  I bring this up because there are so many people who although they are walking around they are not really living.  They are in some cases living a “Dead Man/Woman walking” type of life.

Lately people have been talking with me and sharing with me and I Thank God that he has given me the opportunity to minister to them about forgiveness.  When you harbor resentment in your heart towards someone or something that they have done, that resentment turns into anger if it is unresolved.  That anger will continue to grow until one day you realize that anger has become “hate” the worst kind of a bitter pill to swallow.  That hate will continue to grow and guess what it will affect your life in ways you never could imagine.  For instance it places you into a self-inflicted bondage.  Whenever that person comes into your area, your entire countenance changes, a lot of times you become angry all over again.  In addition to that a lot of times the person you are angry with is enjoying their lives because they either have no idea you are angry with them or they really do not care.

Unresolved issues also sometimes bring on unnecessary stress which will and could begin to affect your physical bodies.  Too many people are suffering because of unresolved issues that has caused their blood pressure to sky rocket, that has cause them to have heart problem, that has caused them to remain bitter people throughout their lives.  However if that person passes away before you take the opportunity to make things right between you, then you are overcome by a wave of Guilt.

I mean think about it, is there anything that someone has ever done to you that you cannot forgive.  Now let me add a disclaimer right here, I am not saying you have to be around them once you forgive them, because sometimes we forget forgiveness is for us not for the person we are forgiving.  No because some of the infractions taking against some of us has been horrible and no we do not need to be in the presence of those persons.  However, you do need to understand that every portion of your heart that is cluttered with those ill feelings is a part of your heart that could be filled with love and peace.

There are three main reasons why people act the way they do.  1)  They don’t know any better or 2) they don’t want to do any better  last but not least 3) they are in protect my heart mode because they have been hurt so much till they trust no one.  Do you fall under any of these categories?  If you have resentment against someone please pray and ask God to teach you how to forgive them.

I end with this real life example, my best friend did not make it to my wedding 21 and ½ years ago, I was so angry with her.  She did not call or anything, so I was bitter.  I saw her in Center City and she spoke I spoke back looked at her and she looked as if she had just had a baby.  The anger and hurt in me got even deeper, how could she not let me know she was a mother.  Mind you we had not spoken in a couple of years by this time and I was pregnant with my first child.

It was something I knew we would share with each other before all of this happened.  I was sad and hurt.  Within a month’s time from there her father passed away.  I spoke with her mother and her mother told me that my girlfriend was due in December of that year; she had not had the baby.  I knew then it was time for me to call her and to make things right.  As mad as I was I could not imagine her giving birth to her first child thinking I did not care or that I did not love her.  It was her father’s death that made me realize I had to make this right.

I called her and we talked.  I found out they had just diagnosed her with an illness and she had just gotten out of the hospital less than a week before the wedding.  Out of her love for me she did not want to add the extra stress to me by telling me what she was going through.  We talked everything out I apologized to her but I said you should have called me so I could have been there for you.  I realized that sometimes we just respond because of what we think.  In my mind, I must not have been important for her to be at my wedding.  In her mind I was so important that she would miss the one day so that I could enjoy it and not be worried about her.  She expressed to me how I hurt her that day in Center City.  We both cried and then laughed as we took a stroll down memory lane.  We are still best friends, and have been for the last 19 and ½ years.

Our children call each of us Aunt, and our husbands Uncle.  I used my experience as to not release the confidentiality of others that have confided in me.  So you can do this, you can learn to forgive.  Just please do not wait until it is too late.  It is time to let the anger and hurt go, and live your life to the fullest.  Yes indeed they day of a funeral is an eye opening experience, today let’s bury the un-forgiveness, malice, resentment, hatred, anger, hurt and guilt so we can  truly live our lives free of bondage with love and peace in our hearts,

God Bless You

Read The ENTIRE Book of John
AUGUST

Before getting into the article for this month, let me say I realize that it has been a couple of months since I have submitted an article, for that I apologize but sometimes life have a way of taking flight and taking over.  Sometimes the encourager needs to be encouraged.  I would also like to give you an update on Baby Miracle, because that was the last article submitted.  I am happy to say she is doing great and weighing a whopping 6lbs and some ozs.  She is being released from the hospital finally and we are all giving God the Glory Honor and Praise.

HOW DO YOU RESPOND TO THE ATTACKS OF SATAN?

In your spare time please read the entire chapter of John Chapter 4 but for the article we will be focusing on different verses – John 4:3 And the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread.  John 4:7 If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine. John 4:9 and he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence.

In these questions we see that the devil has the nerve to be playing the role of want to be Savior.  I say want to be because here we see him all up in Jesus face after Jesus has fasted for forty days and forty nights.  We see that Jesus is tired and hungry, because it has been 40 days since the Spirit of God led him into the wilderness, and the word tells us he hungered.  So we see that the devil with his sneaky conniving self came upon the Lord with the cunning idea of offering him some temporal pleasures.  He also challenged the very being that is the Christ.  How do I know this?  Well the bible said that Satan said “If thou be”, now I don’t know about you but that leads me to think that he is challenging the very being of Christ.

He challenged his hunger, when he said “command this stone that it be made bread”.  Jesus responded it is written, That man shall not live by bread alone.  You would think that the devil would get the point but no he wanted to take it further and took him up into a high mountain and said “If thou therefore wilt” worship me, all shall be thine.  Which Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him.  If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence.  And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. So what was Jesus saying, If you don’t know me by now I’mma Let you know who I am today.

Jesus responded to the devil each time he tried to question and tempt him.  If I could use my imagination I see Jesus raising his hand and saying I am here and you are there.  I can imagine Jesus looking at Satan and saying Get thee behind me because you are out of line and you are out of order.  I can imagine Jesus saying I have come to take on the sins of the world and your meager attempts at trying to undermind me and my purpose are just those meager attempts.

This is what happens with us.  The enemy of our souls tries to tempt us into accepting temporal things that will satisfy us and depending on the state we are in sometimes the resistance is hard.  Often times that the encourager needs to be encouraged.  When things seems to be going great sometimes a friend or a family member will show up out of nowhere and try and throw a wrench into your moment.  Sometimes those tapes in our minds of who we used to be start to play and rewind over and over again.  But it is at these times when we must give the devil the word of God.  We must understand that it is only through God that we can fight against the enemy of our soul.  We need to continue in prayer and be mindful of who we surround ourselves with.  We need to stop allowing negative aspects to control our lives and seek to find positive things and positive people.  We need to diligently seek guidance from God and to allow him to order our steps.  If you are trying to help someone and it seems as if you are bumping your head against a brick wall, then maybe you are trying to run a journey that is not yours to run.  We need to know when to Let Go and Let God.

Have a blessed month.

APRIL

The Witnessing of a Miracle

Matthew 19:13 Then were there brought unto him little children, that he should put his hands on them, and pray:  and the disciples rebuked them.  14:  But Jesus said, suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me:  for of such is the kingdom of heaven.

Throughout the month of March, my heart has been grieved with the senseless murders of young people.  Not just the ones that made the headline news, like Trayvon Martin, Kendrec McDade and Delmon Newsome.  The fact that these were young African American males resonates in my spirit; but more importantly the fact that they are someone’s child that has been senselessly murdered.  But also the ones that did not make the national news, those like who were found in alley ways, or those that were starved to death by care takers.  It does not matter what race or nationality the fact is this is a child.

The scripture tells us to Suffer little children to come unto him.  Too many children are not even being told about God but that is a lot of times because the parents does not know God for themselves therefore they do not know what to offer their children in the way of an introduction.  However, in the midst of it all God is still showing that he is God and that he is still in the Miracle Working business.  In addition to everything going on, in March I had the pleasure and the honor of meeting a real life Miracle.

In writing this article I called the mother to request permission to use Baby Miracle’s picture.  Her response was “YES because I want people to see what Jesus can do”.  So let’s begin with the story of Baby Miracle, I am not got to put her real name because the most important thing to remember is she is a Miracle.

This is Miracle

Miracle was born on March 10, 2012, weighing only 1lb 1oz through emergency caesarian after being in the womb for only 24 weeks.  I had the pleasure of meeting little Miracle for the first time on March 17th her 1 week birthday.  The thing that really touched my heart was that Miracle was the smallest baby in that room full of other miracles but she was so active.  Miracle’s mom and grandmother are others that touched me that day.  For they were talking with Miracle and  her mother looked lovingly at her daughter and said “Say Thank you Jesus for letting me live to be a week old”.   This mother also said the Lord’s Prayer with Miracle and her grandmother prayed with Miracle.

I am sharing this story with you because as I said earlier, the Lord placed it on my heart to share this story with all of you to let you know that He is still in the Miracle Business.  As I said earlier some parents do not know the Lord so they do not know how to introduce the Lord to their children.  But here in the case of Baby Miracle, her mother, grandmother and great grandmother all know the Lord for themselves.  Like Miracle’s 5 year old brother, she is being introduced to the Lord at the earliest possible time in her life.  We are watching God, because all Praises belong to him, in the carrying out of his process in little Miracle’s life.  Suffer the Little Children to come unto me is what the scripture says.   This month we will be celebration Resurrection Day and on Resurrection Day Miracle will be one month old.

I do not know about you, but look at God, and his marvelous work that he is doing.  I Thank God for allowing me to personally see this Miracle and for reinforcing that he is still God and that He is still on the Throne.  I Thank God for the family of Baby Miracle for they are allowing me to join in with them and their praises for their gift from God.  Finally, I Thank God that I have this opportunity to share with you Matthew 18:26 But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.

MARCH

Scripture: Mark 8:27 And Jesus went out, and his disciples, into the towns of Caesarea Philippi: and by the way he asked his disciples, saying unto them, Whom do men say that I am?  28 And they answered, John the Baptist; but some say, Elias; and others, One of the prophets. 29 And he saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Peter answereth and saith unto him, Thou art the Christ. 30 And he charged them that they should tell no man of him. 31 And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders, and of the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.

Subject:  JESUS MORE THAN A MERE MAN

In this patch of scriptures we find Jesus and his disciples after he had healed the blind man.  Jesus turned to his disciples and asked the question, Whom do men say that I am?  After receiving some answers Jesus then asked But whom say ye that I am?  We see that Peter answered and saith unto him, Thou art the Christ and Jesus charged them that they should tell no man of him.  Now this right here proves in itself that Jesus is not merely a man, for how many of us do things just to get recognition.  We walk around mad at the Pastor and the People of God because we were not recognized for something that we did.  We think the world owe us something because we may complete a task or two.  But we must remember ONLY what we do for Christ will last.

Jesus then begin to tell them of the things that he would suffer.  Now one thing about the word of God there is always confirmation.  The book of Mark is one of the four gospels, and it is called one of Synoptic Gospels along with Matthew and Luke.  What this means is that you can go into these three gospels and make a comparison and you will see that some of the accounts are the same, but they are not merely copied they are different accounts of the events.

The book of Mark is different in that it does not give a Genealogy of Christ life, unlike the books of Matthew and Luke, however this does not take away from his account.

Mark 1:1 The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.  This scripture gets right to the point that Jesus is the Son of God but I intend to show you that he is also God.  Jesus has two natures, that work together in one person, that do not separate, nor does it cause confusion.  How do I know that Jesus is God and Man and that Jesus was there all along, well let’s go to the beginning.  It is always good to go back to the beginning.  When creation was taking place, God looked at his creation and saw it was good.  Then we see our Heavenly Father addressing Jesus Genesis 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.  Now want me to prove how I know it was Jesus God was speaking too, well God knew even before the foundation of the world that we would need a plan of Salvation to reconcile us to him.  Jesus is that plan. Other scriptures that prove Jesus and God are one and the same in Exodus 3:14 God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM’ has sent me to you”.  Now for confirmation of Jesus being God let’s turn to John 8:58 “I tell you the truth,” Jesus answered, “before Abraham was born, I am!” John 10:30  I and my Father are one.  Now let’s go through a little and explain why Jesus is more than a mere man.  A lot of times when questioned who Jesus is we say the Son of God, and even though that is true it is not the full essence of who Jesus is.  Son implies that he is a human male, it was Mary’s given birth that allowed God to take on the form of a man yet we must remember that this in no way changed God’s deity.  We must also remember that unlike Adam Jesus was not created he was formed into the womb of a virgin through the work of the Holy Spirit.   Isaiah 7:14 – Therefore, the Lord himself will give you a sign the virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel.  Confirmation of this prophecy is given in the New Testament in the book of Matthew 1:22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: “The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” – which means, “God with us”.  We must remember that Jesus is God’s Spirit poured out into human flesh to do what Adam and others could not do because of Sin and disobedience.  I Corinthians 15:45 And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.

Last but not least, Jesus starts to prepare the disciples that like a Man he must die, but unlike a mere man he would rise on the third day.  Now let’s compare Jesus to some of the men of the bible.  If you were to ask Adam what makes Jesus different from him, he would say, I was not able to resist the temptation from my wife to eat of the fruit even though, I had everything I could possibly want to eat and I knew God commanded me not to.  He would probably say because of my disobedience Sin entered the world.  But Jesus was able to resist the Temptation of Satan in the wilderness for forty days and night with nothing to eat, and because of his obedience man was given the right to be called the Sons of God.  What would Abram say, he would say that God promised me a child through my wife Sarai, yet because it was not coming in time according to my timeframe, we tried to help God and I had a child with Hagar.  But Jesus, waited on the Lord, he did what he was told to do and believed God even unto the Cross.

David would say I had it all yet I just had to have the wife of Uriah, he would say even though I had other wives and she was his only one.  David would say I even went as far as to have her husband killed.  David would also tell you that unlike Jesus he did not reward faithfulness because he had Uriah killed when all he wanted to do was serve David and show how grateful he was to me for bringing him home.  David would say that Jesus always rewarded Faithfulness, why remember he had taught the people for three days and then he was concerned about feeding them before he sent them home.

So you see Jesus is definitely More than a Mere Man…..He is Lord and Savior

FEBRUARY

Proverbs 23:6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

Subject:  What about the Children

As I was laying in my bed one morning, about 6:30, the Lord started speaking to me about the children.  What about the Children?  I continue to lay there and the Lord started showing me different ones.  I felt the spirit of the Lord so mightily.  I usually get right up and start to writing but I continued to lie there.  Even after getting ready to leave for work and after arriving for work it was there in my spirit; I finally sat to begin typing this sermon at 11:59 am.  God is saying what about the children; in the scripture above we are told how we should train up our children.

The truth of the matter is that we owe these children to pray for them and to protect them.  As I laid there in my bed God begin to show me the different ones including my own children.  I remember how my children used to imitate people, and they still do sometimes, even Avery.  I remember one day when my oldest daughter was about 5 and I was just beginning to really get into a serious relationship with the Lord when God used her to encourage me.  She said Mommy God said the devil want your heart, but don’t worry about it God got you.  I remember how God placed on my heart to pray for one child even while she was yet in her mother’s womb.  So God says What about the Children?

I know you are probably saying why I am telling you all of this well I am glad you asked.  Look at the world today, look at our youth somewhere down the line we stopped being parents and started trying to be our children friends.  I understand that there is a lot going on, so many parents are on drugs or in jail for selling drugs.  However, when I was growing up the neighbors helped to look out for us.  Today the neighbors are not trying to assist you because they are scared of the children. It has gotten so bad that children are pulling people out of taxi cabs beating them to death.  It has gotten to where a person walking down the street is being attacked by our youth because of the color of their skins.  Yes some of these youth are beyond reigning in but what about the other ones, the ones that are now in daycare and preschool?  What about the pre-teens that we see are seeking guidance?  Are we taking the time with these children that we see who are reaching out for guidance?  The children we see that are at the beginning of going astray that we can possibly help them to make a change in the walk of life they are beginning.

We need to stop throwing our children and other children by the wayside.  God has given each child as a precious gift.  God did not give us these children to be abused and to be ridiculed and to be beaten down every chance you get.  It is horrible how some adults speak to these children.  If we know a child is being abused called the authorities to assist that child getting to safety.  Also stop letting society raise your children and you go back to raising your own children in the right way.  Be a positive example to these children, stop letting your children wrong doing be acceptable.  When they get older they will break your heart if you do not take the time now to be the parent that God intended for us to be.

If we train up a child in the way he should go that foundation will be there.  Yes sometimes they may stray but the foundation will be there.  I remember an old adage that says “A child is born with a Heart of Gold, but it’s the world that makes it cold”. This is serious stuff because you see a child trust you as the parents first and foremost.  You are the ones that a child believes will protect them and will nourish them and will provide all their needs.  Remember a Child’s praise is pure and it’s innocent.  A Child’s praise is one of Love and adoration.  A Child’s Praise is one that can be nurtured.

The sad thing is we are tainting these children by the treatment they receive.  We want to yell at them about their pants sagging and believe me I hate that look too, but when they are dressed nicely we don’t compliment.  God said it is time to get it right.

  JANUARY 2012

Martha Munizzi has a song out called It’s a New Season;

It’s a New Season

It’s a New Day

It’s a Season of Power and Prosperity

It’s A New Season and it’s coming to me…

Hebrews 11

1Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

As I sit to write this, first article of 2012 I am listening to Martha Munizzi’s New Season.  This song coupled with the scripture above begs the question, “What are you looking for in the New Year?”  Are you ready to move forward or are you going to continue to be bound like in the past.  The Scripture tells us that Faith is the Substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.  What are you hoping for?  Where does your hope lie?

Is it a New Year with the promises of a New Season?  Are you going to trust God to do what you have been praying for him to do or are you going to continue to try and do it on your own and in your own strength.  The last couple of years have been very challenging for a lot of people and it continue to be challenging to the economy, but sometimes it is more challenging because we no longer have Faith.  We no longer have hope in not only a better tomorrow but in a better today.  Where are you heading in the year 2012?   Will it be a New Season or will it be the same ole thing?

I do not know about you but I am looking forward to 2012, I am looking forward to God doing a new thing not only in the economy but in my life.  It is really funny that sometimes it takes years for us to see what God was showing us in the testimonies that he has given us but when we can look at a situation that we are currently in, and have Faith that God is going to see us through that is a wonderful revelation.   When we initiate our Faith and give wings to our Hope at the beginning of a situation, we save so much time not worrying but giving God the Glory and the Praise for what shall be.  No experience is ever a wasted experience, there is someone coming after you that your experience will be the measure of encouragement and hope that they are looking for.

Remember “Now Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen”

Happy New Year and activate your Faith by giving wings to your HOPE.

DECEMBER

Matthew 16:26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?  Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

Wow it is hard to believe that this is already December 2011.  I remember when I sat to write the column last December and I had the same sentiments where did the time go.  The truth of the matter is that this has been a very busy year and while this has been a busy year we still must look at everything and see if we were really busy getting things done or were we just wasting time procrastinating.

It seems that everyone wants something but a lot do not want to do the work that needs to be done to get it.  So many times it is so easy to take the easy way out and let others do it for you then you just bask in the rays of Glory.  Is it really that important to get what no matter the cost?    Is it so important to get what you want even if it means that we walk over others to get it?  It is so important to get what we want even if it means we turn our backs on those that are there and need our help.

What does it profit us to gain everything “materialistically speaking” but we lose our souls.  I have found myself very disturbed with the things that have been going on this year.  Things such as the sexual abuse of others, the murders, the robberies, the disrespect that has become the norm for some youth to show elderly people really has caused me to shed tears really has cause me to shed tears.  Is it that important to get where you think you want to be that you would literally sell your soul to get it.  Now I know someone reading this is probably saying “wow you are being dramatic” but the truth of the matter is if you see a child being hurt, abused, and mistreated you speak up.  You try and help that child; you do not keep it to yourself and say “It’s not any of my business”.

If you see an elderly person being abused and mistreated you don’t laugh as if it is something funny you try and help to stop it from happening.  If you know someone who cannot take care of themselves is being held against their will you call someone that can help.  I am so taken back by the level of greed and selfishness that is going on in the world.  Well we are in the last month of this year, December 2011, and once again people will be making the New Year Resolution, whether they have any intention on trying to reach their goal or not.

My Resolution is as it has been for many years now, and that is to try and be the person that God wants me to be.  My prayer is still Lord help me to remain Humble, whether others understand it or not.  Lord help me to be a better person than I have been.  Lord help me to help others that you put in my path.

NOVEMBER

THANKFUL

Psalm 100:4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.

November is the month when we are supposed to stop and give Thanks for everything.  Although we should be giving thanks everyday however, November marks the official month when we are supposed to stop to give Thanks.  But do we really take the time; it seems these days that Thanksgiving is the holiday that is the forgotten one.  People go all out for all other holidays, they get to Halloween and put up all kinds of pictures and articles of ghosts, goblins, witches and brew yet when it is over, Thanksgiving is not recognized.

While reading a Face book status of a dear friend of mine which said “What if you woke up this morning with only the things you Thanked God for Yesterday?”  The truth of the matter is that every morning we awake with new grace and mercies.  Every morning that the Lord allows our lives to roll on is a day that we should acknowledge Him and give Thanks to Him.  Everyday we should remember that we are the created and that we were created in a wonderful and marvelous way.

Yet unfortunately we take advantage of the people that love us.  We take advantage of the people that try and help us.  We take advantage of the things that we have been blessed with.  The people who have jobs complain about having to go to work when there are a lot of people that would love to be in your shoes.  Most importantly we take advantage of God’s Grace and His Mercy.  So think about it are you really thankful?  Are you really appreciative of the things that you have been blessed with, and I am not just talking about material things.  I am also referring to having a sound mind, having the activity of your limbs, those who have ailments, being grateful that there is still hope that you can get better.

I look at the deaf community and no matter where they are at; when they see each other or someone they know they are so happy to see them.  I think about the blind person that gets excited about hearing someone they love voice, or just to hear a stranger say good morning.  I think about the man or the woman that are in a wheel chair yet everyday they are at their jobs on time and ready to work.  I think about all the things that people, with the human eyes, look at and say these people are missing but they do not see the joy that is in their soul.  They do not see the peace of mind these people have, they do not see the love in the hearts.  Yet some who are healthy and have nothing (that the naked eye can see) wrong with them yet they are miserable and do everything in their power to make you miserable also.

So what is the problem?  Are you really thankful?

OCTOBER

II Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

Prayer and Healing is Needed

Last month all over the place there were gatherings in remembrance of the attacks 9/11 attacks in 2001.  Schools all over were participating in “no violence rallies” and there were articles on the survivors and the members of the families of those who lost their lives.  I was honored to celebrate with some great friends in a celebration of life.  You see a very good friend of mine was diagnosed with Breast Cancer on 9/11/2001.  While the world were looking at the televisions, listening to the news, running around trying to get our children out of school to hug and kiss them she was going through her own personal Hell.  The one common thread is that the majority of people were praying.

Why am I bringing this up and sharing this, well I am glad you asked.  You see I am not trying to take anything from the horrible acts of that day, but I am trying to say everyday people are going through something that is shattering to their lives and in some cases breathtaking.  There are so many people that are senselessly being murdered through violent acts everyday.  People that are leaving behind grandparents, parents, sisters, brothers, children, grandchildren, cousins, aunts and uncles not to mention friends.  The list goes on and on, yet so many of them are not even recognized as having ever been here.  We should not have to wait for something so horrible and on such a national level to happen for us to turn to God in Prayer.

For the first time I experienced an earthquake, for the first time that I remembered we had Tornados and Hurricanes in Philadelphia.  How much more must go on before people will turn to God and turn from their evil ways and pray.  The scripture above tells us that when we do that then God will hear from heaven and will heal our land.  We saw the results of the earthquakes in Haiti and in Japan.  We read about the deaths in newspaper, hear about it on the news, yet we act as if they do not matter.  What more needs to happen before we realize that this is the beginning of the end of times.  Now is the time for us to PRAY and seriously SEEK THE LORD.

Just think about it, we need to Seek the Lord while he can still be found.  For as it says in the Word of God “No man knows the day nor the hour when the Son of Man shall reappear.  Jesus is coming back and it leaves the question are you Ready?

SEPTEMBER

Lamentations 3:22 It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.  23 They are new every morning:  great is thy faithfulness.  24 The Lord is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.

When is God’s Portion Enough for YOU?

I am currently reading a 21-Day devotional entitled Craving God by Lysa TerKeurst which is made to correspond with the book “Made to Crave by Lysa TerKeurst”.  Along with this book I am also reading a book entitled “Made to Crave God Every Day of the Year”.  I bring this up because as I was reading it one day the subject about God’s Portion was one of my daily readings.  Let me tell you this also, the 21-Day Devotional is based on her journey to healthy eating/living.  However, even though the Devotional is based on her journey to healthy living there are some very good points that she makes.  This brings me back to the topic at hand, “When is God’s Portion Enough for YOU”.  With the events of August, the Earthquake and Hurricane Irene; something that makes me stop and think about the blessings yet I still hear people complaining.  This is not enough, I expected more from an earthquake or they are taking things too far instead of being grateful for God’s Portion for those days.

For example, if you came through your storm(s) of the day, then God’s Portion was sufficient enough to preserve you.  I am reminded of the people in the wilderness, you can read about it in Exodus chapter 16 but the just of the event is that the people were complaining to Moses about being hungry and Moses heard from the Lord and was told that the Lord was going to rain bread down from heaven.   This bread was called Manna, the instruction was that the people was to collect enough for their family for that day and anything extra that they collected in an attempt to horde it spoiled.  However, on the sixth day they were allowed to take a double portion so that they would have Manna for the Sabbath.

We are told that even after that they murmured and complained even after being given Quail to eat.  It seems as though the more we have the more we want.  When is God’s Portion Enough for YOU?  Are you ever satisfied or do you just complain and wander around lost because of greed.  We have so much to be grateful for, even the ones that were not affected this time by the storms that were prevalent, we still have had storms in our lives where God has shown his Portion to be sufficient.  Each morning we awake to New Mercies and a God that is forever faithful, yet instead of saying Thank You God for My Portion for the day for I know it will be sufficient we say what more can I get today?  How much more can I take and horde up for a rainy day?  I have my health, my life and my strength.  Yet we complain because someone didn’t speak to us that day, we complain because the football team lost, we complain about everything, sometimes never once stopping to say “Thank You God for Your Portion for me this day was enough.”

Satisfying Your Deepest Desire with God, not Food
AUGUST

John 8:1 Jesus went unto the Mount of Olives. 2 And early in the morning he came again into the Temple, and all the people came unto him; and sat down, and taught them. 3 And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery and when they had set her in the midst 4 they say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, the very act.  5 Now Moses in the law commanded us that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?  6 This they said tempting him, that they might have to accuse him but Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground as though he had not heard them.  7 So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself and said unto them, He that is without sin among you let him cast a stone at her.  8 And again he stooped down and wrote on the ground. 9 And when they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.

Have you had your Jesus Moment?

In your free times please read and meditate on the whole chapter I am sure you will be blessed.  Now I know someone is thinking what does the adulterous woman have to do with me having a Jesus Moment?  Well I am glad you asked.  You see the adulterous woman is a woman who was caught up in her mess.  She was caught in the very act of adultery and taken by her enemies/accusers to Jesus with the hopes that Jesus would give them the permission to stone her.  They were also looking for something that they could hold over Jesus’ head so to speak.  You know how sometimes people do things to try and get you caught up in some more mess.

Any way instead of them getting what they were looking for they were actually doing was given her the gift of a lifetime they were giving her a Jesus moment.  I could just imagine the fear and the terror she was going through when being led to what she assumed would be her stoning moment, but instead she received her Jesus Moment.  Oprah always says she remembers her Ah Ha moments but this woman was given her Jesus moment and what she receive in her Jesus Moment was priceless.  She received love like she had never known before, she received forgiveness, and she received deliverance.  She had a Jesus moment where she was shown that she could be forgiven, Jesus said Go and sin no more.  You see the adulterous woman is a great person to look at because sometimes people feel like they are so caught up in their “addictions/habits” that there is no way out.

So this leaves me to you, have you had your Jesus moment?  If so what did you do with it?  You see instead of her accusers staying to get their Jesus moment, they left with their heads lowered and they did not wait around for a Jesus moment.  But like the woman you are being offered a Jesus Moment.  There is nothing so horrible that you have done that you cannot be forgiven for nor delivered from.  Jesus is right there saying come unto me all ye that are heavy laden and I will give you rest (Matthew 11:28).

So I ask you today what are you burdened with today, Alcoholism, Drug Addition, Adultery, Prostitution, Pride, Maliciousness, Homosexuality what is it because if you sincerely want to be forgiven come to Jesus.  There is nothing to hard for God, Jesus is standing right there on God’s right hand side saying all you have to do is ask.  Do not let this day come up against you, where you are being offered a Jesus moment.  Are you going to accept the offer or are you going to be like the adulterous woman’s accusers, and leave with your heads hung in shame.  What excuse will you use, there is none remember he is Alpha and Omega; Beginning and the End; The author and finisher of your fate.  The decision is in your hand, you have been given a Jesus Moment.  Read Romans 9:9 For if thou shalt confess with your mouth and believe in your heart that Jesus died and he rose again thou shalt be saved.  10 For it is with the heart one believeth unto Salvation and with the mouth confession is made.

God Bless You all.

JULY

What is your limit?

First I would like to start by apologizing for the lateness of this month’s article but those who know me knows I take the Divine Pearls of Wisdom article very serious and I truly try and wait for directions from God. With that being said let’s get into this month’s article.

I was having a conversation with my youngest daughter and the conversation of “Beliefs” came into existence. I say it came into existence because this seems to be a topic that comes up quite often around my household. I was talking to her and she made the statement “I believe there is a higher power”, to which I responded what do you mean by “higher power?” You see the truth of the matter is that we do not always realize how we put things when speaking. I mean the enemy of our soul is a “higher power” meaning that he does exist and all though he needs people to carry out his desires he is still a force to be reckoned with. Let’s take a quick peek at where he started. It is said that Satan was once the most beautiful angel but it was his pride and his desire to be God that caused him to be cast out of Heaven.

Now with that being said the word says in Psalm 8:1 O LORD, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens. 2 Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger. 3 When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; 4 What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him? 5 For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour. 6 Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet: 7 All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field; 8 The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas. 9 O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!

So with us being made a little lower than the angels, we see that Satan is truly a higher power by virtue of the fact that he was made an Angel. However, I am grateful to God that Satan is not the ultimate Power. I am grateful to God that it was God that created the Heavens and the Earth. I believe that we must come to the place where we know what we believe and the reasons behind why we believe that. So that leads us to the question “What is your limit?”. During the last month in the city of Philadelphia, there have been numerous murders. There have been senseless killings yet people still cannot tell you what they believe and where they believe they will spend eternity.

There comes a time in each of our lives that we must stop relying on what we’ve heard, what we’ve been taught and really seek the truth for ourselves. There are people that will say “I’m a Spiritual Person” well what does that mean exactly. There is the Holy Spirit but then there is also “Demonic Spirits”, what does that mean? We must come to the place where we can answer for ourselves why it is we believe what we believe. I believe what I believe because I sought the Lord for myself. I look around and I realize the blessings that I have received because of answered prayers. I look at the birds and I know there is a God. I look at the seasons and I know there is a God. I look at myself and I know where I’ve been and I know that only God could have brought me this far. So ask yourself what your limit is and how far are you really willing to go to find out the Truth.

Have a blessed month.

June

Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. 3 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith. 4 For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office: (let us bow our heads for a word of prayer)

Spiritual Gifts

Sticking to the scriptures given to me, I choose to open with a portion of Romans 12. I do encourage you to read the entire chapter of Romans 12 as well as I Corinthians 12: As I was preparing for this word, I sought the Lord and he started giving me portions of the word. I had never heard it quite this way, but how many of you know that God can do what He wants to do and I for one Love the way he does it. For a subject I simply want to use One Body Many Members.

There is only one head to a body; Spiritually Jesus is the Head, and physically the Pastors (who are sometimes called the Under Shepherd or Angel of the House). So I went to thinking well Lord what about when we see Co-Pastors, now don’t get mad at me but the Spirit revealed to me that sometimes that is man’s will. What do I mean by this, well sometimes it is God had called a Pastor and because their spouse was also in the ministry, were added as the Co-Pastor. Before going any further I said this is sometimes the case, take Memorial Tabernacle we have more than one Pastor in our church but only one PASTOR of the church (We have a Pastor of Evangelism, an Assistant Pastor and a Pastor in Training). Prophesy represents the eyes and the ears. The mouth is used by many different forms of the gifts, prophesy, preaching, exhortation, but its one part being used by the many members.

Some people will tell you that if you do not speak in tongues that you are not saved and not Holy Ghost filled, well to that I ask whom are you going to believe God or them. The word of God clearly says in 1 Corinthians 12:28 And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues. Also 1 Corinthians 14:23 If therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those that are unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad?

The Heart is your center of control, Proverbs 23:7 For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee. So if you are harboring Unforgiveness, Pride, Arrogance, Jealousy, etc. it affects the control system of the body. For it is our Hearts that God looks at and you may be able to fool the other members of the body but never will you be able to fool God. Your faith represents your blood, in that you need it to survive. Without blood, the body would not have physical life, without Faith, the body will not have spiritual life.

Our legs represent our ministries, for it is, as unto walking we must wait on it. What do I mean by this you ask? Well God gave me the example of a baby how we wait for the baby to grow and for their legs to grow strong enough for them to walk and we must stay in our word. We must trust the Under Shepherd with our ministries so that impartation can be made, then when our season comes, we can effectively work in our ministries.

With all of this we need Love one for another. We may think we are all that but without Love one for another we are nothing. If I can take a moment and bring your attention to 1 John 4:20 If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? So you see you must have Love one for another. We must be Obedient to God and to our Pastors with the instructions that are given. We must not Judge, for only God knows where each one of us are in Him and only He knows where we are going. We must have Unity we cannot dismiss any part of the body for we need every part to make the body complete. My portion of God needs to connect with your portion of God and so on and so on. Last but definitely not least, remember that God gives Spiritual Gifts and not men. Stop letting man minimize your gifts to a Happy Meal so they can super size their value meal. Remember to work the part of your ministry and let the other parts handle their parts. If you are the hand be the hand, if you are the foot be the foot, every part is important.

MAY

Matthew 4:10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. (Also found in Luke 4:8)

Matthew 16:23 But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men. (Also found in Mark 8:33)

Take Your Hands off the Control; You are not the One to Save Us

In the scriptures above we see that Satan has no respect of person when it comes to trying to bring temptations, lies and false hope into the lives of those of us who serve God. We see where Jesus was led up of the Spirit into the Wilderness after his baptism, to be tempted of the devil. While there we see that Satan tried to take control over Jesus in the wilderness by offering him things that he could not possibly give. We also see Satan trying to take control over Jesus by using Peter. The truth of the matter is that like Jesus, we must put Satan in his place. We must remind Satan to get thee behind us, and to take his hands off of the controls because he is not the One to Save Us.

Satan is busy and he is always on his job, through our friends and our family. On our jobs, in our church, on SEPTA, in the grocery store and even driving down the street. Satan is so busy that after he uses someone to rub us the wrong way he try and use us to respond in our old nature. He whispers go ahead, tell them, what you scare of? You don’t believe me; think to any incident that happened just today, if you had responded in the old you, what could have happen.

We must stand firm in our belief, stand strong in our convictions, know that as the Word of God says in the Word of God, For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Just think what might have happened if Eve had said to Satan in the Garden “Take Your Hands off the Control; You are not the One to Save Us”. Or if Paul hadn’t requested to be judge by Caesar instead of accepting the death penalty from the so called leaders. By requesting to be Judged as a Roman Citizen Paul was really saying “Take Your Hands off the Control; You are not the One to Save Us”. So the next time you feel a tugging to do something that you know is against the Will of God, or the next time someone tries to take over; you stand firmly and say to Satan, “Take Your Hands off the Control; You are not the One to Save Us”.

APRIL

Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. 2. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. 3. And God said, Let there be light; and there was light.

Are You Really Listening?

During the last couple of months the Lord has been leading me in a different way in teaching the Women’s Sunday school class at my church about being of service to Him. Focusing on us using our senses in the role of being a Servant of God to not take things for what they seem to be. As I was sitting here thinking and pondering on what the subject for April would be the Lord dropped into my Spirit the topic of Are You Really Listening? He then took me back to the way he had been directing me in my recent teaching to the scripture listed above.

You see the truth of the matter is Christians always get excited when we read the part where it says “And God said, Let there be light”, while yes we should be excited about the fact that God spoke light into existence but shouldn’t we be just as excited realizing that it came to be because the earth responded to God’s spoken commandment.

Like the earth we are also God’s creation, yet we do not always listen to the Spoken Commandment of God to us. We pray and because we do not receive the answer that we think it should be we pass it off as not being an answer at all. Sometimes it is the people that we surround ourselves with that block our hearing. We know sometimes that we have heard from the Lord but then we share it with others who sometimes convince us otherwise. It is for this reason that we a lot of times miss out on the blessings that God has in store for us.

When we get to the point where we really listen to hear what it is that God is telling us, and where it is that God is leading us then we will see that things will get better because we will be better equipped to be obedient to His Word. We will be better equipped to use discernment instead of judgment. We will be better equipped to tell someone else about Him because after all we are listening to Him and being obedient to Him. April marks the month when we celebrate the Fact that Jesus rose again. It is the month when we should be giving God the Glory and the Praise for it is the month representing the day years ago when Jesus Hung on a Cross for our Sins, Died and Rose again.

It is the month where we learn about the 7 last words of Christ and we are reminded that Christ was strictly about his Father’s Business of going about to become the living Sacrifice for us and for our sins to reconcile us to our Heavenly Father. It is the time that we see Jesus interceding on our behalf even unto death.   So the next time you are not sure what it is you are supposed to be doing, take the time to Really Listen to what it is God is saying to you. God Bless You.

Romans 7:24 O wretched man that I am!

Who shall deliver me from the body of this death?

Can God Use You but More Importantly Can God Trust You?

The scripture above really sums it up, O wretched man.  Now we are not just speaking about Man as the male but Man as the Human Race (Male and Female).  The book of Romans speaks to the character of Man in general.  During the month of February God challenged me to think about and even teach about Man’s ability to do better in our service to God.  He challenged me to teach about the way we use our gifts of seeing, hearing and even speaking, to use it for the betterment of life not only for us but for others.

For instance, too many times we judge people and situations by what we see physically and not by trying to understand exactly what it is God is trying to show us.  We judge people actions instead of trying to understand why it is they act the way they do.  Also sometimes we keep people around us that make us look better to other people.  For instance if you are the smartest person in your group you need to look for another group.  Why do I say this, well if you are the smartest is there really any room for growth.  Or if you are hanging out with a group of people that will make you look better physically in the eyes of others then your motive is wrong.  Oh Wretched Man that I am!  The first thing is to be HONEST WITH YOURSELF ABOUT YOURSELF in order to take the responsibility for your actions.  Also remember sometimes the people you are around block your ability to see clearly.

Hearing and Speaking sometimes goes together.  For this portion the Spirit of the Lord led me back to Genesis.  When we are reading Genesis about the creation of the earth we seems to get excited about the fact that God said “Let there be light” and there was light.  Now I am not saying not to get excited about that but the other aspect of that was, when God spoke it the earth “Heard” it and responded to the command from God.  The earth is God’s creation and it obeyed His command.  This is the point where we as Mankind need to get to.  The point where when we hear the Spirit of the Lord speaking to us we respond and carry out the command; unfortunately sometimes we are too busy listening to what our friends tell us instead of the instructions from God.  How many times have you prayed for something and it just seems like God is not answering your prayer.  Could it possibly be that God did answer your prayer; however you were too busy listening to others or looking at the situation through physical eyes.  The truth of the matter is that you must be positioned to hear from God and you must realize that just because the answer was not what you thought it should have been, doesn’t mean an answer was not given, just that you negated the answer.

In addition, we must learn to be mindful of the things we speak.  We must realize that just because it comes up in your mind does not always means it needs to be spoken.  You can tear a person down with the things you say or you can build them up.  Too many times we do not take the time to access the situation before speaking.  We are so determined to give someone a “piece of our minds” and too many times it is the wrong piece that we are so willingly giving.  There is a scripture found in Proverbs 18:21 Death and Life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it should eat the fruit thereof.  Also be mindful of those persons that only tell you what you want to hear Proverbs 20:17 Bread of deceit is sweet to a man; but afterwards, his mouth shall be filled with gravel.

So please make a conscious decision to be mindful of how you Look at people; what you hear seek to hear directions from God and what you speak.  Also remember to also teach our children these valuable lessons in life.

God Bless You

When Sincerely Seeking and Doing God’s Will Is Enough

Scriptures (King James Version)

Matthew 6:33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things shall be yours as well.

Hebrews 12:1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us,

1 Samuel 15:22 And Samuel said, "Has the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.

Sometimes we find ourselves lost and running around trying to find our place.  Seeking out where we want to be then complaining when things are not going right yet we say we are about Kingdom Building.

We find ourselves lost, on the job; lost in the company we keep; lost in our homes; even lost in our prayer lives.  Sometimes we are even lost in church.  What do I mean by this you may be asking yourself?  Well we press our way to get to church, saying I want or I need a word from GOD but we miss that word because we’re too busy trying to judge people.  Or we’re too busy complaining about who’s bringing the word.  Sometimes we miss the word because we are too busy wondering about what our friends are doing.  We are worrying about our bills, our spouses, and children.  All of this stuff causes our focus to be off.

Well the truth of the matter is we must get to the place where Sincerely Seeking GOD and Doing God’s Will Is Enough.

How do I get to that point you may be wondering.  Well first you must realize that the word of God is true and he cannot lie.  Romans 3:3-4 What if some were unfaithful? Does their faithlessness nullify the faithfulness of God? 4 By no means! Let God be true though every man be false, as it is written, "That thou mayest be justified in thy words, and prevail when thou art judged."

We have to stop picking and choosing only scriptures that we feel justify the mess we are doing, for instance a lot of people are quick to yell Romans 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus… they very rarely finish the rest of the scriptures that goes with this first part which says …who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

Romans 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set me free from the law of sin and death. 3 For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do: sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, 4 in order that the just requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

Please read the entire eighth chapter of Romans later.

We need to have Faith that God is going to do just what he said he would do if we are obedient.  Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.  For it is when we find ourselves living in disobedience that we sometimes find that we cannot locate our faith.

January 2011

Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

A Choice Must Be Made

If you are reading this article it means that you are one of the ones that were blessed enough to live to see the year 2011.  It is the time of year when people tend to make New Year Resolutions that more than likely turn out to be broken promises.  Broken promises to yourself, your family, your friends, your co-workers and in some instances even your significant others.  New Year resolutions are made a lot of times out of habit or out of your thoughts of it being the thing to do.

But there is a decision we must all make.  The decision of where we will spend eternity.  This decision is affected by how we live our lives daily.  My change began in December when I made a conscious decision that I was going to be a better daughter not only to my Heavenly Father but to my earthly parents as well.  While I have always tried to be a great daughter to my mother the effort to be the same great daughter to my father was never truly made.  After making that decision the Lord showed me that it was the same way I had decided to accept him as my Lord and Savior 14 years ago the relationship needs action to be taken on my part as well.

This means that I must make the effort to be the best daughter to my parents that I can be.  It also means like the Scripture says above I must also present myself as a living sacrifice to my relationship with the Lord.  What does this means?  Well I was not setting a good example for my children of how to treat their father and myself.  I was expecting them to always be respectful to us their parents yet I was not making any real effort to have a relationship with my father.  It does not matter that the situation was different.  The same way I expect them to be towards their father is the way I need to try to be towards my father.  Being a child of God means that I must forgive him and I must honor the role he has of being my father.  This is done by the renewing of my mind on a daily basis, if I continue to think about what should have, could have or would have I would be stuck in the wrong frame of mind. But by praying daily and asking God to renew my mind I can begin to move forward in making the relationship with my parents, as a whole better than it has ever been.

Being a living Sacrifice unto the Lord means that I will follow His Word in all aspects not just the parts that I find fulfilling but in all parts, because it is what He requires.  I must give to Him my reasonable service which means I must do all that I can to live Holy because He is Holy.  It means that if I see my brother or my sister hurting that I am to try and help.  But how can I help and be there for them when I myself have not made the choice to be a better person without everyday living and striving to do better.  Life is too precious and in some cases too short not to make a true effort to get along with the people God has chosen to be your family.  Whether that family is by blood or by adoption, the fact is too many people came into 2011 carrying the guilt of not getting a relationship right with someone that did not make it to 2011.  True healing of the heart will only come when real effort is made for reconciliation.

DECEMBER

Tis the reason

For the Season

Is Jesus

Luke 2:1 And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be taxed. 2 (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.) 3 And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. 4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:) 5 To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child. 6 And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. 7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, 8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.  10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.  11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.  12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.  13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, 14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.  15 And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.  16 And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.

We are at the time in the year when all havoc breaks loose, beginning with what is known as Black Friday until Christmas Eve (December 24) and in some cases even Christmas Day.  People are running around trying to find the best prices for the best gifts, while others are scouting the Parking Lots at the Mall seeing who has left those same gifts in the backseat of the car to take them.  There are also more people in the malls that are watching the ones going to the MAC machine and then lifting the hard earned money out of their purses/pockets.  But I wonder if they ever stop to think about the Real Reason for The Season.  It is supposed to be about celebrating all that Jesus gave up – his life – for us to be redeemed to the Lord.

So this month I am lead to share as a reminder of the real reason for Christmas.  We see in the scriptures above the birth announcement of Jesus our Lord and Savior as given to the Shepherds by the Angel of the Lord.  We see that right before being born there was no one willing to make room for Our Savior and today it seems to be the same situation therefore he was born in a barn (among the animals) and wrapped in swaddling clothes (rags) and laid in a manger (small box/trough).  Yet the heavenly hosts were praising God because they understood the gift that was just bestowed upon the inhabitants of the earth.  Which leads us to the question Do you have room in the Inn for the Savior or do you only have room for Material Things that will soon rust, fade, paint will chip or just get old.

Better yet, do you realize, appreciate or even understand the gift of life that was given to you because of the life that Jesus so freely gave up? It seems that we forget about the many blessings that have been bestowed upon us because of our own Selfish desires, conquests and even lust.  I know how it is to shop, to see the smile on the faces of your loved ones as they open their gifts on Christmas Morning.  I understand the laughter that permeates the rooms as family gathers, Christmas Dinner is served and stories of Christmas past are told.  I too enjoy those moments but I must also say I realize the sacrifice that was made long ago on Calvary’s Hill.  I too enjoy the Christmas Music, my favorite Christmas Song is Donny Hathaway’s “This Christmas”.  Yet as I sit typing this column and listening to the song “When I Think About The Lord” by Christ For the Nations – I find myself agreeing with the words of the song.

I understand that some may say this sounds like a message of Thanks and perhaps should have been used Thanksgiving Day but the truth of the matter is that we should show our gratitude every day.  For every day that God allows us to walk among the living is another degree of the Grace and Mercy that is measured out to us daily.  It is another degree of Love that is poured out for us.  The truth of the matter is that it’s not gifts once a year that show our family we love them but it’s the actions we take daily.

So remember “Tis the reason for the season Is Jesus”

God Bless you and may you have a Blessed, Safe and Wonderful Christmas from The Anderson Family to Your Family.

November

Declaring the Glory of God

November 2010

Imagine being out on a clear night and looking up towards heaven and seeing the beautiful stars and the moon.  Now imagine being out on a clear night, and looking towards the heavens but seeing nothing.  No stars, no moon, nothing yet it is still bright enough for you to know that it’s there.  This was an incident that happened to me approximately 12 years ago, and I remember my cousin and me turning around looking and commenting on how we take things for granted.  Things like the stars and moon being there on a clear night, because it’s the source of light for night as humans see it.

Little did I know at that time that God the creator of the Heavens and the Earth allowed me to experience that incident for such a time as this.  God in His Infinite Wisdom knew that the day would come when I would have to write this very paper.  The paper that would explain how the ‘HEAVENS DECLARE THE GLORY OF GOD’ and why it is important that we know the answer.    First we must remember that before everything GOD WAS.  We must realize that God in His all knowing and all powerful wisdom, with Jesus by his side decided to create Heaven and Earth.

So let’s take a short journey, through the process.  Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.  2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.   This is the beginning of creation and we read about how GOD created the heaven and the earth, yet man would prefer for us to believe that this beautiful creation just happened.  They would have us to believe, that there is no God.  God created the heaven and the earth, yet man want to take credit for it.  Man wants to take the beautiful creation of God and turn it into something to be used for profit.  God deserves better than that, don’t you know that the Heavens declares the Glory of God.  From Genesis to Revelation we have a blue print that shows who GOD IS.  We have the written word of God that declares in and of itself the Awesomeness of God.  I can only imagine the Glory that shone around God as he said  Genesis 1:6  And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. 7 And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so. 8 And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.

God created it and he declared it was good.  Then he hung the sun to be the light in the day and the moon for night.  So you can see how one would be shocked not to see the moon.  But it’s just one of the many mysteries of God and the fact that with God all things are possible.  Next let’s take a look at Psalm 19:1 The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.   Now reading this scripture it leads one to ask the question; What is the Glory of God?  For the answer to this question I would like to take you to John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  2 The same was in the beginning with God. Let’s go a little further to John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.  So this patch of scripture tells us that Jesus the Incarnate Word, the portion that GOD poured out of Himself, to come and reconcile us to Him; is the Glory of God.  Remember how Jesus answered Thomas in John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Could you imagine being one of the many angels that gathered around the edges of Heaven as they watch God perform the creation?  Can you not understand why Satan was upset when God said in Genesis 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.  27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.  28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

Who wouldn’t want to be made in the Image of God?  Who wouldn’t want to be one of God’s Greatest Creation, and I say this because we are made in His image and after his likeness.  David said in Psalm 8:1 O LORD, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens.

Yet once again Satan has put in the mind of men that this is all a lie.  He has used his trickery to try and make man believe there is no God.   Psalm 19:2 Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge. 3 There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard. 4 Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun, 5 Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race.  6 His going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it: and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof.

Yet the sun and the stars are a language all in themselves, who else but an Awesome God could have hung the sun in the sky.  Who else could have hung the moon or the stars in the sky, who else but an Awesome God could have allowed them to know the difference between shinning during the day or at night.  God has shown the very existence of Jesus all along, because before the Law was given Jesus existed.  2 Corinthians 4:4 The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.  This scripture shows us that Satan is always trying to blind the minds of the unbelievers, but if we would do our part and like the Heavens DECLARE the Glory of God, oh what a wonderful place this would be.

OCTOBER

God is asking the Question “What Do You Want from Me”

Genesis 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image and after our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping that creepeth upon the earth.  27 So God created man in his own image, and in the image of God created he him male and female he them.

In these scriptures we see from the beginning God’s plan was for us to have dominion over the earth not over each other but over the earth we see how God took time to not only make us in his image and after his likeness.  We are the only creatures that God has giving the ability to think and speak when God breathe the breath of life into Adam it was what was supposed to be the greatest creation on earth “Man”.  Yet because of free will determinism man continue to fall short.  Romans 3:23 All have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God.  But we should be doing better.

God is asking - What do you want from Me?-

He said hasn’t he put food on your table; hasn’t he shown up when your bills were due; hasn’t he brought relief when you were in pain and even healing.  God said how many times have he made a way out of no way for you?  How many of you were left for dead yet God allowed someone to find you; how many have he saved from Overdosing on drugs?  How many times have he allowed someone to walk out of a crack house after smoking all night instead of allowing them to die in there?  How many times have he saved someone from dying in a drunken stupor?

God said he has put people in your lives to help and guide you but you have allowed your pride to keep you from accepting the help or you have used them up and then tossed them aside like garbage.  But the ones he wishes to remove from your lives you want to cling on to them.  To further assist us God sent his only begotten Son to offer you a way to be reconciled to him, yet some reject Jesus and others even deny he is the Son of God.

God is asking - What do you want from Me?-

He said just last night he made death behave so that once again you will have a chance to get it right God said he’s shown you that he is Sovereign, He’s Alpha and Omega, The Beginning and The End.  He is The Author and Finisher of your Fate; He is Jehovah (The Great I Am); Jehovah-Rapha (your healer); Jehovah Jireh (your provider); Jehovah Nissi (He reigns in Victory).

WHAT MORE?  WHAT MORE?

Today is another day and today you can make a change.

SEPTEMBER

Matthew 21:18 Now in the morning as he returned into the city, he hungered.   19 And when he saw a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever. And presently the fig tree withered away.  20 And when the disciples saw it, they marvelled, saying, How soon is the fig tree withered away!  21 Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done. 22 And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.

Why pray if you are going to worry and
Why worry if you are going to pray?

As humans we all go through different things in our lives.  Some scary and some not so scary.  We go through things, in some of our relationships (whether it’s romantic or plutonic) that makes us sometimes wonder if this is worth the effort. One of the biggest worries on some people plates is the question how am I going to pay this bill or how am I going to feed my family?  Will I be able to get the medical care that I need for me and my family?   So how do we handle these situations?  Well if you know the Lord then the first thing we should do is pray.  But not if you are going to worry.  In the scriptures above we see how Jesus spoke to a fig tree and cursed it and it withered right away.  Now I know that someone is saying I am not Jesus and that is true but you have been indwelt with power from on high.

The thing about Jesus is he was always about His Father’s work.  He spent time with His Father, He had the faith that His Father could do anything that He asked of Him.  This is the kind of faith that we need to have.  The scriptures below talks about the mustard seed.  When we first start out the word tells us that if we have the faith of a grain of mustard seed.  Now if you were to do research on a grain of mustard seed you will see that it is very small but as it grows it blossoms.  This is the way our faith is going to grow.  Each time God does something for you and/or protects you from danger seen and unseen your faith should be growing by leaps.  Every morning that God allows me to get up I realize the blessing I have received and the favor from God and this causes my faith in Him to grow even more.

Matthew 17:20
And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

Mark 4:31
It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown in the earth, is less than all the seeds that be in the earth:

Luke 13:19
It is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and cast into his garden; and it grew, and waxed a great tree; and the fowls of the air lodged in the branches of it.

Luke 17:6
And the Lord said, If ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye might say unto this sycamine tree, Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea; and it should obey you.

So getting back to the original scripture Jesus said to His Disciples that if they had faith and doubt not that they would be able to do the same thing.  Where we fall short is we try and put God in a box.  We feel like God can do some things but no all things.  That shows a lack of faith.  Look at all of the things that you have been spared from even before you were saved.  Look at the figurative mountains that God has moved for you after you prayed about the situation.  Have you ever prayed for your spouse/significant others, for your children, for you parents, for your friends, for your co-workers, etc, when they were found to be in places they thought there was no way our?  Yet God answered your prayers.

But remember not only should you have the unshakeable faith you must have pure motive.  Your heart must be in the right place, you cannot be harboring malice in your heart about someone.  You cannot be praying selfish prayers, asking God to bring harm upon your enemies, you cannot be harboring un-forgiveness in your heart and expect for God to move in your behalf because that is iniquity (going against the commandments of God).  Also you must ask for forgiveness and if you don’t forgive your brothers and sisters yet you want God to forgive you.

AUGUST

The Serenity Prayer

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change
courage to change the things I can
and wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
as it is, not as I would have it;

Trusting that He will make all things right
if I surrender to His Will;
That I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with Him
Forever in the next.

Amen.

Patience is a Virtue but

True Wisdom is a Blessing

During the month of July I have been reading from the book of Proverbs which deals with wisdom.  This book of the bible deals with a wide range of the benefits of using Wisdom with your actions and the rewards as well as the disciplines of not using Wisdom.  I started this month’s column off with the Serenity Prayer because a lot of times our choices/reactions are because we cannot tell the difference between the things we can and cannot change.  However, I submit that if we start by looking at ourselves and asking God to give us the wisdom to change the things about ourselves we will be in a better position to look at things on the outside and use Wisdom.

In the book of I Kings we are told about Solomon one of the wisest and most blessed kings of the Old Testament.  Solomon was a wise king because of what he asked for when he prayed, he asked God for WISDOM to lead the people.  God granted Solomon so much more because of all the things Solomon could have prayed for he asked God for Wisdom.  Proverbs 1:5  A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels: Now later on down the line yes Solomon reign had a turn and that was when he did not seek God for Wisdom when he met and married this Pagan lady and after that idolatry was reintroduced to the area.

I will never forget an incident in my life.  I was upset with my boss and I went storming into her office to tell here exactly how I felt about the situation.  After leaving her office, I returned to my desk and I felt like I needed to read a scripture for support.  After taking out my bible I opened it up and guess what it was in the book of Proverbs, the scripture said Proverbs 29:11 A fool uttereth all his mind: but a wise man keepeth it in till afterwards.  I remember saying “Lord why didn’t you show this to me before I made a fool of myself?

The truth of the matter is that I should have taken a moment to have prayer  and to seek God for the direction and how I should have handled the situation.  But I didn’t and because of my actions I delayed some reconciliation that would have been necessary.  Be mindful of how you respond to people and what it is that you are saying or doing in their lives.  So the next time you are upset with someone, use wisdom and stop and seek God before moving forward.  Remember, Proverbs 1 A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.  2.  The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness.  3.  The eyes of the Lord are in everyplace, beholding the evil and the good.

Galatians 5:25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

What are people saying about your walk?

In the 5th chapter of the book of Galatians we are taught about the acts of the flesh as well as the fruits of the spirit.  However, the sad thing is that although we are told about the fruits of the spirit are we really applying the word to our lives.  The truth of the matter is we are using too many excuses to act on any impulse we choose.  We need to seriously take the word that we are learning and apply it to our lives, this is what shows growth in our walk.

We must understand that everyday we should be getting better than the day before.  We are walking and living a life where there are others watching us.  We are setting examples for younger people in our families, in our communities, in the work place, and if we are professing to be Christians we must be examples to the unsaved as well.  What are these people saying about you?  One of the most popular songs in the gospel arena today is “He Saw The Best In Me” while this is true God does see the best in us He also see the mess we do and try to pass over as excusable.

Although God sees the best in us when are we going to allow people to see that great portion of us?  When are we going to stop using excuses for our actions and start taking responsibility and apologizing.  Why do we show people our worse behaviors and then complain because they hold us up to be accountable for our behaviors.  We need to remember that we have choices in our lives that will result in consequences, some good and some bad.  The choice is ours, do we respond and chase after the lust of our flesh

Galatians 5:17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. 18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.  19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

Or do we make decisions by following after the Spirit?

Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

The choice is ours so ask yourself the question “What are my actions saying to other people about me?”

Do You Really Trust The Shepherd?

Psalm 23:1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.   2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. 3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.  4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.  5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

The scripture above is one of the shortest chapters in the bible, yet it’s meaning goes much deeper than we realize.  I recently had the chance to hear a woman speak on this chapter and after hearing her I was thinking hmmmmmmmmm I’ve never really thought about it.  Then I heard the question in my spirit, Do You Really Trust The Shepherd?

In our Christian Walk we learn different bible verses and we even memorize a lot of them.  Like some of you, I learned the 23rd Psalm when I was little, before I even accepted Jesus as my Savior.  Before I gave my hand to a Pastor and my heart to God I knew the 23rd Psalm.  Unfortunately, I did not know the exact extent to what was promised to me in this chapter.  So lets take a look at it.

Verse one The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.  Look at our lives we are the sheep, that the LORD watches over.  Psalm 100:3 Know ye that the LORD he is God:  it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.  John 10:4 And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice.  John 10:14 I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.  John 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:

Before we go any further, let’s look at the Godhead.  There Is God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit is the comforter.  Three parts that equals the one whole, that work together in Unity and does not cause conflict one against the other.  So now we know that we are the sheep and the Holy Spirit is the Shepherd, we know this because Jesus said John 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever. John 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. John 15:26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me.  We see in these scriptures that when Jesus left he promised us that we would receive a comforter that comforter is the Holy Spirit.  Once the Holy Spirit came the Holy Spirit became our ever present Shepherd.  So why did Jesus come some of you might be wondering, because it is only through shed blood that we could be redeemed to the Father and Jesus was the redemption plan of God’s to bring the sheep back in the fold.  After sin entered the world we were separated from our heavenly father.

In the natural world we see shepherds that lead the sheep to green pastures.  When the grass begins to turn brown where they are located the shepherds lead them to greener pastures so that they may be fed.  This is exactly what reading the word of God does in our lives.  When we are walking down a bad path, the Holy Spirit that is inside us tug on us and we are turned from the path we are on to a better path.  When we are tired and feel like we can go no further, it’s through prayer and reading the Word of God that we are restored, not only restored as in getting a good night sleep, but restored to our soul.  You can also think of the Staff as a tool of the Holy Spirit because it is the Holy Spirit that reaches out and grabs a hold of us when we start to waiver in our walk.

This is why we should not fear, because once you accept Jesus as your Savior you are indwelt with the Holy Spirit, and it is with you always.  We are promised in God’s word in Hebrews 13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.  So even when things seem hard, even when things seem like they will never work out, know that this is your valley experience and that you are not alone.  When the enemy darts and arrows are heading your way fret not because you are not alone for God is with you.  Know that he will take care of your enemies for you Psalm 37:1 Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity.  2 For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.  Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.  4 Delight thyself also in the LORD: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.  5 Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.  6 And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday.  7 Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices.  8 Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil. 9 For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth.

He preparest a table before the presence of mine enemies, this is what happens when people try and bring about your demise, and they are wondering why you are still standing.  This is the Lord keeping you and sustaining you.  We see in the scriptures above that God will indeed cut down the evildoers all we must do is follow the leading of the Holy Spirit.  Thy anointest my head with oil, my cup runneth over.  It is called favor, and favor is unearned and unmerited grace we receive from the Lord.  When you have the favor of the Lord, what a mighty blessing that is.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.  The best way to explain this is with the following scriptures Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.   So if you have accepted Jesus as your Savior you have received the gift of Eternal Life, and I’m sure it can’t get no better than that.

God Bless you all

MAY

Genesis 1:26 (Whole Chapter)
And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

Genesis 1:27 (Whole Chapter)
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

Psalm 139:14 (Whole Chapter)
I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.

Affirmation

The first question would be what is an Affirmation:

avowal: a statement asserting the existence or the truth of something the act of affirming or asserting or stating something.

(religion) a solemn declaration that serves the same purpose as an oath (if an oath is objectionable to the person on religious or ethical grounds)

Of course for the purpose of this column we are referring to Self Affirmation which is a statement asserting the existence or the truth of something to us. Perhaps we use self affirmation to encourage ourselves to try something new, or to convince ourselves that we have arrived, etc. But the truth of the matter is that we find affirmation in the physical and material realm. However we must realize that the physical and material realm may not always be there. We must reach deeper on the inside for that affirmation. Because it is the deeper form of affirmation (spiritual) that will help you to move forward during those hard times that come along in our lives.

For example one may look in the mirror in the morning and say Work it Diva today you are going to go out there and be your fabulous fierce self and do what it is you do. I mean I have said this to myself also, because sometimes I need to remind myself that society do not define me. Another may look at their house and car and say “You have made it you have arrived”. But what if something happens during that day that may send you crashing down. Will that same affirmation work for you? The scriptures above are scriptures that I use for Affirmation. They are scriptures that encourages me during the hard times in my life. I am reminded that God made me after His image and in His likeness. I am reminded that when He made me he made others, therefore I am not here in this earth alone that God prepared others that will be there to help me when the time is right for their assistance. In Ephesians we are told that there is a season for everything but that is for another column, however, I wanted to bring it up because when the season comes for the people to help you complete whatever it is that needs to be completed you must be open to realize the opportunity that God has opened the door for you, so that you may walk through. The scriptures above also reminds me that yes I am Fearfully and wonderfully made and that means that God took His time when making us because after all we are made after His image.

We will all have challenges in our lives and it is at these times when the Physical and the Material things will not help us. Challenges in things such as our Marriages, Parental Care, Child Care, Careers, the list goes on and on. These are the times when the deeper affirmation really comes into play. For instance when my son was hit by a car in 2007, it was my faith that kept me together. As I was running down the street to the place where my son was laying in the street, it was my constant prayer to God that helped me to affirm that we would make it through. It was my taking them to church as children that when the doctor said “Ms. Anderson the test shows no head injury and no punctures to the major organs” that my son was able to say “Mom there are no head injuries, we can do this”. See this was one of those moments when my looking in the mirror and saying “Work it Diva today you are going to go out there and be your fabulous fierce self and do what it is you do” would not have helped me. My child was hurt and it didn’t matter how “fabulous I am” I needed to know that God heard my prayers of healing for my son. Because of that accident my son was in a wheelchair for 6 months, but today he is completely healed and is running track. I am grateful to God for my son’s healing and grateful for the people that were in place to get my son to the hospital, to the doctors that were on staff to realize he needed surgery. The second hospital he was rushed to and that great orthopedic surgeon on staff to do that nine hour emergency surgery that my son needed and on and on. Today, my son is healed and running on his high school track team.

So the question still remains what do you use to give self affirmation to you? Will it be enough to sustain you during the times of those Losses in your life? Losses such as loved ones, limbs, health, material things, confidence in yourself and others? Will it sustain you, or will you crumble? Whether it is an affirmation to get out there and start your own business, or to finish getting your education, whether it’s to complete a task at hand, you need to have Faith. The word of God says in Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. It is that faith that help people achieve what seems to be the impossible. Ask the people who found themselves out there, with no one to turn to or no where to go. The truth of the matter is that we sometimes put our trust in the wrong things. Sometimes we just push and push, not even stopping to realize the blessings that we have received. Not taking the time to give God the Glory. Taking all of the credit for ourselves but ask yourselves this question taken from Mark 8:36 For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?

APRIL

NO CHARGE!  WHY?

BECAUSE JESUS PAID IT ALL

This is the month that we celebrate the Resurrection of the one and only True and Living God.  On March 28 we celebrated Psalm Sunday, which represents the Sunday of Jesus’ Triumph entry into Jerusalem.  This is one of the few times we see that Jesus rode anywhere, because He mostly walked.  Now someone maybe thinking why do we say His Triumph entry into Jerusalem, don’t you remember He was Crucified?  Well we say Triumph entry because He was God personified into man so that we may have a chance to receive the gift of Salvation.  April 2nd is Good Friday, representative of the day Jesus was Crucified and April 4th we will be celebrating Resurrection Day, the Day that Jesus was resurrected from the dead.  Let’s take a look now at:

The Seven Last Utterances of the Lord

THE FIRST WORD:

"Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do."

"And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left. Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do." Luke 23, 33-34.

Even from the cross Jesus was asking for the Lord to forgive us, even before we were formed in our mother’s womb.  Jesus, while on the cross cried out for what he knew we would do in our lives.  He knew the decisions that we would make even before we made them.  He was innocent and His blood was shed for us and for our sins.

THE SECOND WORD

"Verily, I say unto thee, today thou shalt be with me in paradise."

"And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, if thou be Christ, save thyself and us. But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation? And we indeed justly; for we received the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss. And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To-day shall thou be with me in paradise." Luke 23, 39-43.

This goes to show you that, while yet hanging on that cross, Jesus gave the gift of Salvation to the malefactor that asked for it.  Why because that is the kind of God we serve, a forgiving God, a loving God, a God full of Grace that he willingly give to us.  We see that the male on the other side, didn’t care that Jesus was innocent and even while hanging on that cross, challenged Jesus to prove that He was the Messiah.

THE THIRD WORD

"Woman behold thy son . . . behold thy mother"

"Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son! Then saith He to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home." John 19, 25-27.

Although Jesus was on the cross, in what I know had to be considerable pain, he took the time to ask someone to care for His earthly mother.  So many times people take their mothers for granted until the point where they no longer have their mother.  Yet Jesus on his day of crucifixion took the time to show kindness and an act of love to the woman that God use to give birth to Him.  Also it shows that he didn’t just pass her on to just anybody, we are told that the disciple that he loved, was who he gave the charge to.

THE FOURTH WORD

"My God, my God, why has Thou forsaken me?"

"And when the sixth was come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour. And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?" Mark I5, 33-34.

Did God forsake him, not at all.  You see Jesus is God wrapped up in flesh, and it was at this time that the human portion of Him was speaking to the Godly portion of Himself.  If you remember what was said by Jesus when he was praying - And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt.  Mark 14:36.  But it was because God was determined not to forsake us, but to give us a plan of redemption that he bankrupted Heaven and sent his best.

THE FIFTH WORD

"I Thirst"

"After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst. Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a sponge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth." John 19, 28-29.

In this utterance, Jesus was not speaking of a Physical Thirst, but he was speaking of a Spiritual Thirst.  He was so Thirsty for us to accept Him for who He was the Messiah.  He was saying I Thirst for you.  He was saying I left Paradise to come here to earth to die for you.

THE SIXTH WORD

"It is finished"

''When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost." John 19, 30.

After all of this could it be that you still do not understand.  I came, I taught, I opened my heart for you.  I lived, I suffered and now I give my life for you.  It is finished, my life here on earth however now I must go to prepare a place for you. Remember what Jesus said to Thomas - 1Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.     2In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.  3And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.    4And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.    5Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?    6Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.  John 14:1-6

THE SEVENTH WORD

"Father, into Thy hands I commend my spirit."

"And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost." Luke 23, 46.

Father I’m coming back to my rightful place.  I have done what you have commanded me to do and they do not take my life for I freely give it.  This is what Jesus did on that Hill far away that we know as Calvary.  He didn’t do it for a price from you but to pay the Price for your sins. He didn’t do it because He wanted to know what He would get in return.  He didn’t hang on that cross, just for show, no it was LOVE that held Him up there.  Love for You and Me.

 March

2 Corinthians 12:7 And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.  8 For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me.   9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.   10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.

ENOUGH

Wow this year God seems to be leading us to Reflect, Examine, Review and then Take Action.  January was to Reflect and Move Forward, last month was to examine ourselves and let the Real Us Stand Up and this month it is to look at all of the excuses we find ourselves using and to say enough.

We look at Paul as being one of the greatest soul winners for Christ. We read about how he was one of the biggest persecutors of the people of God, in his early years.  Then we read about his conversion on the road to Damascus and we see how he went tirelessly after his conversion winning souls.  We never read about him saying he was too tired to win souls yet we see in the passage above that Paul did have to contend with things that were trying to stop him from winning souls.  I am so glad that they did not specifically say what the thorn was just that he had a thorn in the flesh.

So what is your thorn?

We say things like; I wish I had more time to read my Bible, I wish I had more time to spend with my family, I wish I had more time to write my book, I wish I had more time to pursue my dream, I’m too tired today I will do it tomorrow etc.  The truth of the matter is we have enough time to do everything else we want to do.  We have enough time to sit around and chat.  We have enough time to go shopping.  We have enough time talk about others.  We have enough time to help other pursue their dreams.  So the question is when do you say enough already, with the excuses; enough with the squashing of other people dreams; enough with the pity parties and the woe it is me.  When do you say enough and step out on faith and start doing those things.  God is saying that a large majority of us just had all of that snow, where here in Philadelphia the City was shut down for two days.  I even had 8 days without my internet and God said to me “How did you use that time?” Was it used in a wise manner or was it just squandered.

See the thing about these inspirational articles is that it is not just for you, it is for me as well.  I too must look at everything without the Rose colored glasses.  I too must take responsibility for my actions.  I had all that time and there was so much more I could have gotten done during that time.  God is saying everyday we have 24 hours, stop putting off for tomorrow what can be done today.  We are not promised tomorrow, stop with the excuses and start today to make a change.  God’s Grace Is Sufficient, and when I am Weak God Is Strong.  When I am tired God has the extra boost I am in need of.  Remember the gifts that you were given were not just to be placed on a shelf and allowed to collect dust.  There are people waiting for you to make your move in society so they can make theirs.  Also remember when you make that change don’t forget to take time out with your family and friends and let them know you love them.

God Bless You All

FEBRUARY

Will the Real You Stand Up

  1. 1 Corinthians 11:28  But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup.
  2. 2 Corinthians 13:5  Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?
Last month the Lord wanted us to Reflect and Move Forward.  That was to reflect on the year past and then not get stuck but to move forward.  This month the task is to examine your self, but not with Rose Colored glasses but clearly.  One of the hardest things we have to do sometimes is to look at ourselves.  To examine each situation to decide what part in it did we play.  It is easy to look at situations and call people our haters but we must be true about the matter.
Everyone is not our haters, sometimes people are saying things based on the impression we are giving.  Sometimes they are only giving back what they are receiving.  The truth of the matter is we size each other up on the initial meeting, remember the adage “First Impressions are Lasting Impressions” or “You only get one chance to make a First Impression”.  These sayings are true because some people will not give you a chance to change their initial impression of you, but others will and they sometimes continue to see the same thing over and over.  If you have known someone for 15 years and their impression of you is that you are selfish, two faced, a fair weather friend, and then maybe just maybe it’s something that you are projecting.
I remember when I started asking God to show me how He sees me.  I prayed that prayer for a long time.  I was examining myself as well and I prayed for God to change me in some situations it was the hardest prayer I have every prayed at that time.  But I prayed it and then a change started coming along in those situations but I was still not looking at the entire picture.  Then God showed me the way he saw me and I was shocked.  The truth of the matter is if someone else had said that I was what I saw, I would have been offended.  I would have told them they needed to look in the mirror to see that devil riding their back (lol).  But God showed it to me so all I could do was to Repent and pray for forgiveness.  I did not want to be what I saw, as God exposed myself to me.
So this month the invitation is for you to dig deep down inside, remove the rose colored glasses, and truly seek to have the Real You Stand Up.  Pray and ask God to show you how he sees you.  Today I am so grateful that the way God sees me now is better than what it was before.  I am by no means perfect but Thank God everyday I am getting a little better than the day before.
God Bless You and May Heaven continue to smile upon you.

JANUARY 2010

                                            Reflect and then Move Forward
Reflect and then Move Forward

Philippians 3:12 Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.  13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, 14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

Wow it is unbelievable that it is already 2010, ten years after the Millennium.  Ten years after they claimed the world was coming to an end with the way we knew things.  Ten years after people were running around in such a panic thinking that the computers were going to be obsolete.  Never the less, we made it and now we have said Good Bye to 2009 and it is time to Reflect back on the year and then Move Forward.   It is time to review what it is that we have accomplished, attempted to accomplished, what we have gained and what we have lost.

It is time for us to understand that to everything that has happened in 2009 by the Grace of God we survived and are able to look at the lessons learned.  We’ve cried some tears and laughed with Joy.  We’ve received some shocking news, lost some loved ones, lost some friends and found some friends.  We have become tied up in the excitement of living life in the day to day, as well as been subjected to some hardship while living those same days of life day to day.  So many people passed away their ages ranged from over a vast number of years.  Some were natural deaths some were acts of violence, some were just mishaps/accidents, yet we tried to find fault at the hands of others.  How about the concept that some of them it was just their time to go, that they had lived and carried out their purpose.

Ecclesiastes 3:1 To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: 2 A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; 3 A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; 4 A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; 5 A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; 6 A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; 7 A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; 8 A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.

What we must remember that that for everything in our lives there is a season, we do not know how long the season is going to be for but we do know that at some time that season will end and a new one will begin.  It’s the same way when people come into our lives; they are there for a season.  Our job is to live, to love, to learn and to enjoy.  I was just reflecting on the fact that this marks the one year anniversary for this column, Divine Pearls of Wisdom.  As I reflected on the past year and the subjects we covered I am so grateful that I allowed the Lord to lead me in the direction for each month.  Also from my reflection I am determined to Move Forward with the continuation of allowing God to direct me in the direction that I will go not only in this column but also in my life.

I can only hope and pray that the first year of this column has blessed each and every one of you that have read it, and pray the columns to come will do the same.  So I end this column with the prayer and wish that 2010 will be your best year yet.  I end this column with the prayer and the promise that I will continue to see God in the words that I am passing on to you.  I end this column with a word of Love to each one of you by reminding you that we are told in John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

God Bless each and every one of you… Happy New Year

Throughout our lives we’ve all had to face some difficulties and we have all had to face some negativity.  Sometimes the negativity is all some of us know, from the time of being a baby there was someone tearing you down.  You are bad, you are stupid, you are never going to be nothing, no one will ever love you, you can’t do anything right, etc.  The lies go on and on and sometimes we have allowed a lot of these lies to attach themselves to us.  We have allowed them to give us a spirit of depression, oppression and even suppression.  We have taken them to heart so much that we believe the lies and we start to saying the same things about ourselves… things like I can’t do this, this will never work, I cannot ever get ahead in life, etc.  Therefore we operate out of fear and doubt.
But there comes a time in life when we must remember that God has not given us the Spirit of Fear but of a Sound Mind (2 Timothy 1:7); we must also remember that it’s the enemy job to try and stop us from reaching our full potential.  It is the enemy’s job to make you fear stepping out on Faith; it is the enemy’s job to make you doubt your ability to succeed.  The enemy is always going to do his job; after all he is dwelling in this earthly realm after being kicked out of Heaven.  Satan is mad and he’s mad at God but he comes after us to try and break us down.  We must remember who the enemy is, Satan (Mark 1:13); the Father of Lies (John 8:44); Evil one (John 17:15); god of this age (2 Corinthians 4:4); Thief (John 10:10); Tempter (Matthew 4:3); Accuser (Revelation 12:10); Abaddon – this name means “Destruction” (Revelation 9:11) there are more names but each name gives you an insight to who the enemy is.  But one of the most dangerous ways that Satan comes to destroy us is when he comes disguised as an Angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:14), this is why we must pray for discernment but that is for another column.
So the question remains, whose report are you going to believe?  The one who has been proven over and over, to be a Liar, a deceiver, a thief, a destroyer, an accuser, an evil one, etc.  Or are you going to believe the one who loved you even before the foundation of the earth.  The One and True Living God; the one who has your back no matter what; the one who makes a way out of no way, the one who knows everything about you; the one who is the author and finisher of your fate.  Whose report will you believe this day?

Believe it or not, Your Testimony is not for you, because it is not
     about YOU!

“God has Kept Me Here for A Reason

Repeat after Me, God has kept me here for a reason.  I survived because He has a plan for me.  All my bad relationships, the addictions, the consequences, the bad credit, the repossessions, the death of my loved ones, the backstabbing from my friends, the negative thoughts or the lack of support, I made it because I am blessed.  I release and let go of all past hurts, misunderstandings and grudges because I am abundantly blessed!  I recognize them as the illusions they are, and sent from the enemy to kill my spirit, steal my joy and destroy my faith; for God is all there is.  All else is a lie!  Now give yourself a hug, wipe your tears away and walk in Victory!!!  “  Author Unknown

The above paragraph is a poem that was sent to me, it did not state who the author is but shortly after reading it, the topic for this month’s article dropped in my spirit.  I am led to also share a little of my own testimony with you.

The topic says “Believe it or not, Your Testimony is not for you, because it is not about YOU!.  When I read the poem above, I started thinking about the different things that I have had to endure during this walk of mine called life.  I also thought about how fitting that this will be the topic of the month of my birth.

I was born on November 4 (don’t worry about the year lol), and I was a pre-mature baby.  My mother said I was barely 5lbs at birth with a bad case of Bronchitis and the doctors and my family didn‘t think I would make it.   My being a fighter and pulling through the very first battle of my life wasn’t about me, it was about God and His plan for my life.  You see the bad things that happens in our lives is an attack of the enemy but God in His Infinite Wisdom allows them to happen.  That’s right even the devil must get permission to mess with you.  Can I prove it, sure can let’s look at the life Job, in the first chapter we see where Satan had to ask permission to attack Job (Job 1:6 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord and Satan came also among them. 7 And the Lord said unto Satan, Whence comest thou?  Then Satan answered the Lord, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.  8 And the Lord said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and eschewed evil?  9 Then Satan answered the Lord, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought?  10 Hath not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? Thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land.  11 But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath and he will curse thee to thy face.  12 And the Lord said unto Satan.  Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand.  So Satan went forth from the presence of the Lord).

You can read all about Job in your spare time but I wanted to show you that even the devil must request permission from God before inflicting anything on us.  You will also read about how Job never cursed God and how even when his wife told him to curse his God and die he did not, instead he continued to praise God and give Him Glory.  But lets move on, back to the subject at hand.

I know someone is thinking if my testimony is not for me then who is it for?  Well I am glad you asked.  You see my living and pulling through the battle at the beginning of my life was to show my family and the doctors that God had the last say.  That it is true that God does give the doctors the ability to be used to bring about healing but they do not have the final say.  My pulling through a grave illness at such an early stage was to show that God can do anything but fail.  God is a Sovereign God, and although to man it seemed it was impossible for me to live, with God it was possible.  Moving on to another part of my testimony, I had two miscarriages before I could have children.  I remember the second miscarriage the doctor told me I would have to abort the baby or run the risk of never being able to get pregnant.  I said no I will not, the baby did not make it.  I went through multiple rounds of testing and fertility pills.  I was on the basil body temperature method, but nothing was working.  The doctors told me that it probably was not meant for me to have children, to consider adopting.  I was praying and others were praying for me.  One day my sister was at prayer service and it happened that she was told to put the picture of me she had in her purse on the altar.

She did not tell her pastor what was going on with me but during prayer the Holy Spirit revealed it to the pastor, and he told her after prayer to go and call her sister.  The message was to tell me that God is going to give me the baby girl that my heart so desires.  Hallelujah, my first child was a little girl.  My womb was opened through an act of prayer and faith.  (The prayers of the Righteous availed) I now have three children, they were healthy children at birth.  This testimony is because I can tell a distraught woman, that is having problems conceiving or carrying a baby full term, to believe and have faith in God because I know what God can do.

The drug addict that has been delivered from a drug addition, can share their testimony with someone who has no hope or ray of hope for ever being clean, and say I’ve been delivered from the life you are now living.  The abused person who has been delivered from that abusive relationship, can now give hope and courage to someone that is currently in the situation that they do not have to continue to be there.  Encourage them that they can leave an abusive relationship and get help.  For the person who has learned how to forgive, can encourage an unforgiving person to Let Go and Let God.  A person who has received their salvation by accepting Jesus Christ as their Savior can witness to an unsaved person and reach out and tell them that All have sinned and come short of the Glory of God (Romans 3:23); they can tell them “For the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is Eternal Life through Jesus Christ our Lord.(Romans 6:23).  They can also tell them that Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.  10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.  Last but not least there are some testimonies that God has not let you live because they were not the testimonies (God protected you from some things) and some of the testimonies you now have is because of choices you have made, but never the less God allowed them.  Remember most importantly that once you accept Christ as your Savior you are a new Creature.  Read Romans 8 and you will see that Nothing can separate you from the Love of God.

Ungodly Gifts

There comes a time in each of our lives when we tend to use Ungodly Gifts without even realizing that we are doing that.  What do I mean by Ungodly Gifts, gifts that are from the enemy and not from God.  Let me take the time to explain what I mean by this.

When was the last time you spoke about yourself and something that you do, and then justified by well that’s just me.  I know the other day I was speaking to some friends of mine and I said please pray for me because I have the gift of procrastination and I know I need to get this project done.  One friend said “excuse me but that is not a gift” to which I responded, “oh but it is a gift, just not one that I want to continue to partake in.”  Now she was looking at the Holy Gifts that come from God, the Fruits of the Spirit found in Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. Or Perhaps she was thinking about the Gifts of the Spirit which can be found in Ephesians 4:11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelist; and some, pastors and teachers; 12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ.  13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ:

Yes these are gifts that we should want to own and partake of, because they are Holy Gifts.  They come from God and we know when it comes to the gifts from God we can rest assure that they are Good, why because we are told in Philippians 1:6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.  However, these are not the gifts I am speaking of right now.  Ungodly gifts are the gifts that the enemy sometimes serves to us on a Silver Platter.  For instance, you are given an opportunity to do something, that you know is wrong, but you start thinking, hmmmm well if I just do it this one time nobody will know.  Well you have just participated in the gift of compromising, you know you should not do it, that’s why there was a stop and thought pattern.  To say nobody will know, is another confirmation that perhaps what you are doing should not be done.  Or let’s look at doubt, another gift from the enemy.  You know that when you step out on faith, that God is right there with you.  I mean after all the word says all you need is faith the size of a grain of mustard seed (Matthew 17:20), but because the results are not always immediate you start to doubt your choices and you start to doubt God.  God says be still and know that I am GOD sometimes it is just a delay and not a denial, but the enemy starts to plant that doubt in your mind.  Then the next thing you know you are giving up and you are saying I know this will never work out.  Well remember death and life are in the power of your tongue (Proverbs 18:21) and if you would just speak life to that situation and trust God to complete it through you.

Another Ungodly gift is when we decide we will tell this little white lie, and then you must tell another one to cover up that one.  Then you forget how many you have told and the story that you used to cover the last lie and you are now in a quandary because nobody believes a word you say.  Another ungodly gift is Fear; this is one of the biggest gifts the enemy use and so many people find themselves becoming subject to Fear.  But in the Word of God we are told in 2 Timothy 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.  You see anything that the enemy cast your way that will make you go against what you know is right, is an ungodly gift.

So what are you supposed to do, because we know that there is a warring going on in our bodies (Romans 7 & 8).  A warring between the flesh and the spirit, a warring that sometimes leave us on the other side of the street.  However, we must remember that Greater is He (the portion of God) that is in YOU than he (the enemy) that is in the world.  The first thing you must do is learn to feed your spiritual body, the same way you feed your physical body the spiritual body needs to be fed.  How do you do this?  Well it’s by studying God’s Word, by meditating on it day and night, by hiding it in your heart.  Remember what David said in Psalm 119:11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.  Does this mean that you will never sin again, absolutely not but what it does mean is that the Holy Spirit will come to attention when something is not right.  What it means is that you will not care who see you and who does not because you will be willing to walk according to the Word of God.

Make a promise today to make a conscious decision not to partake in the Ungodly gifts but to Use your Godly Gifts to Glorify God, Colossians 1:10 That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work.  Also remember what is said in Ecclesiastes 12:14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good or evil.

God Bless You

The Greatness in You

This month’s article is to serve as a reminder that there is greatness in you.  In order to remind you of this it is imperative that I go to the beginning, to the creation of man.
Genesis 1:26  And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. In this scripture God is speaking to Jesus, because we must remember Jesus was always present just not always in human form.  Now before I go any further let me give you the scriptures that prove this to be true.

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God.  3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.  4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.  5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.  6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.  7 The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.  8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.  9 That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.  10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.  11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.  12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:  13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.  14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

Now getting back to the topic at hand, if God said we were made in his image, that means that we have greatness in us.  Not to become God and not to be put on a pedestal but to understand that when God created us he took the time to really make us different from everything else.  The main thing that makes us different is our ability to think and to pursue a greatness.  Too many times people are going to their graves never really finishing what was assigned to their hands to do.  Last month’s article encouraged you to dream again.  Therefore it is only fitting that this month’s article would encourage you to step out on faith and do something with that dream.   Last week I was in a conference and it was at that conference that I received the direction of this month’s article “There is Greatness in You”.  I remember saying ok Lord I know that is the direction you want me to go in but where are you taking me with this.  I attended numerous workshop that talked about the gifts that lying dormant in us and how important it is to get those gifts out to the world.  How there is someone waiting on you to take a leap of faith to let them know it is ok to do it. There was one statement made that was so profound to me, a simple statement, yet a powerful one.  That statement was “when you start something, say you are going to complete it and you don’t, you have lost some integrity to YOURSELF.  Because when you do this you are basically lying to yourself”.  I thought this to be profound because I do my best not to lie to people, I believe in keeping my Integrity, but I never thought that procrastination was in effect lying to me.  So I left that conference determined to finish what I started.  I left that conference knowing that if God gave me these dreams, he also gave me the tools to carry out the tasks that have been assigned to my hand.   Another reminder is to find out what your purpose is, remember the article in May spoke to us about our purpose.  So the steps to follow are 1.      Find out what your purpose is2.      Dream Again3.      Release the Greatness In You by stepping out on faith and taking action

Last but definitely not least, remember in Genesis we are told that God spoke creation into existence.  When speaking to yourself, about fulfilling your dream, remember to speak positively.  Remember to speak life and not death for remember what is said in Proverbs 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.  I hope you know this scripture to be true, because if there is any doubt remember how many times someone have spoken negatively over you and your situation but you were determined not to let anyone define you.  You spoke life into the situation and God turned things around for you.  When you speak failure you will fail, but when you speak success you will succeed.  So what it may take you numerous tries to get it right, at least you can say you tried.  Don’t let the grave rob you of your greatness, act now.  If you would like to send me an email please do so at DivinePearlsofWisdom@yahoo.com

Matthew 6:33  But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Dream Again

As children we’ve all dreamed of being something Doctor, Lawyer, Fireman, Police Officer etc.  Unfortunately these days and times it saddens me to think that the children of today sometimes boast about being drug dealers.  One of the reasons for this is because the children are watching the young adults, some of their parents are on drugs and they feel that is the only way they can survive.  They are not paying attention to the consequences of having this as a life style.  The jails are over crowded, parents are burying their children, and some are ending up in wheelchairs or in the hospitals on life support.  Another reason that they are dreaming like this, is because adults have forgotten how to dream and how to turn the dream over to God.  I once read a book called “The Dream Giver by Bruce Wilkinson – which is a parable about a character named Ordinary, who dares to leave the Land of Familiar to pursue his Big Dream”.

Why am I bringing up this book you may be wondering, well I’m going to tell you why.  This book talks about the different roads one must travel in order to reach the big dream.  Now the “Big Dream” is given to us by God and what we must understand is a Dream from God is much bigger than we can really imagine.  Therefore, we must return the dream to the Dream Giver and trust God to bring the people into our lives that will impart into us the necessary knowledge, wisdom and understanding that is needed.  Now don’t get me wrong it is going to take some time, to reach the big dream but you must endure.  Sometimes the big dreams even fall by the wayside because of decisions that we have made but do not be discouraged.

It is easy for us to say that all things happen for a reason, what was your reason?  See yes it’s true that God allows some things to happen but some of those things are because of decisions that we have made.    But what we must realize is that God never wastes an experience, God will use that experience and allow you to share it as part of your testimony.   If you read about Paul you will see all that Paul did before his conversion on the Road to Damascus before coming to the realization of what he wrote in  “Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”  This also is very prevalent when we remember that before Paul’s conversion he was persecuting the church.  If God can turn Paul’s bad decisions around, God can turn your bad decisions into a positive tool for His Glory.  I mean after all God is God and He can do anything but Fail.

For instance, one of my dreams is for my children to go to College.  While I must foster their dreams, we must allow our dreams for them to show through.  Therefore, not only do I express to them my desire for them to attend college, I have also returned to school to finish obtaining my Bachelor’s Degree.  I must complete what I started a few years ago so that they know that it’s important for them to complete what they started.  By me allowing so many years to lapse in between completing my College Education, they now see that I must stretch the time that I have after work to fit in enough time for studying.  Why because I also must be a positive role model to obtain the type of grades that I want them to obtain.  So now my children are seeing the importance of what marriage should be the importance of being a hard worker, and the importance of obtaining an education.  I can share with them the importance of finishing it while they are young as opposed to after they are married.

This also works towards my “Big Dream”, God had called me to the Office of the Evangelist, and however, my purpose is Communication.  Therefore, as I obtain the education that I need, despite the fact that it was delayed of my doing, then God will position everything into place to carry out the Dream he has assigned to my hand.  As I learn more and receive more insight from God I must trust Him with My Dream.  I placed it in His hands and as I travel and go through what I must complete to reach the dream I must understand that it’s only through my Faith in God that I am able to step out there.  Time is winding down, remember what God said in Joel 2:28  And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:

Are you recognizing the Dreams that God has given to you?  Young men are you seeing the Visions?  What are you doing with them?  Now please remember you cannot share your dreams with everyone, you must pray and ask God to show you who to trust with your dream.  I dare you to not only allow yourself to dream again, but to turn that dream over to God and allow God to direct your path in bringing it to fruition.  Step out on Faith; be obedient to His Word and Trust God.

Oh Wretched Man That I Am

Can God Use Me?

When you get a chance please read the entire book of Romans but for this month’s inspiration I would like to use the scriptures below.  This month I am using two different translations of the same verses because I understand that sometimes the King James Version is difficult to follow, so in addition to the King James Version I am also using the Amplified Version, for the initial verses.

Romans 7:14 For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.   15 For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I.   16 If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good.   17 Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.   18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.  19 For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.   20 Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.   21 I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.   22 For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: 23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.  24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?  25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.  (KJV version)

Romans 7:14 We know that the Law is spiritual; but I am a creature of the flesh [carnal, unspiritual], having been sold into slavery under [the control of] sin. 15 For I do not understand my own actions [I am baffled, bewildered]. I do not practice or accomplish what I wish, but I do the very thing that I loathe [<b]">[b]which my moral instinct condemns]. 16 Now if I do [habitually] what is contrary to my desire, [that means that] I acknowledge and agree that the Law is good (morally excellent) and that I take sides with it.   17 However, it is no longer I who do the deed, but the sin [principle] which is at home in me and has possession of me.  18 For I know that nothing good dwells within me, that is, in my flesh. I can will what is right, but I cannot perform it. [I have the intention and urge to do what is right, but no power to carry it out.] 19 For I fail to practice the good deeds I desire to do, but the evil deeds that I do not desire to do are what I am [ever] doing. 20 Now if I do what I do not desire to do, it is no longer I doing it [it is not myself that acts], but the sin [principle] which dwells within me [<c]">[c]fixed and operating in my soul].  21 So I find it to be a law (rule of action of my being) that when I want to do what is right and good, evil is ever present with me and I am subject to its insistent demands.  22 For I endorse and delight in the Law of God in my inmost self [with my new nature].<D)">(D)  23 But I discern in my bodily members [<d]">[d]in the sensitive appetites and wills of the flesh] a different law (rule of action) at war against the law of my mind (my reason) and making me a prisoner to the law of sin that dwells in my bodily organs [<e]">[e]in the sensitive appetites and wills of the flesh].   24 O unhappy and pitiable and wretched man that I am! Who will release and deliver me from [the shackles of] this body of death?  25 O thank God! [He will!] through Jesus Christ (the Anointed One) our Lord! So then indeed I, of myself with the mind and heart, serve the Law of God, but with the flesh the law of sin.  (Amplified Version)

One of the biggest enemies that we have is ourselves.  Why because we know ourselves better than anyone else walking this earth and for this we tend to judge ourselves harsher than others.  It is through that judging of ourselves that we tend to pass judgment on others.  Sometimes it’s because people have the idea that if they make others feel like the scum on the bottom of their feet it will make them feel better about themselves.  I always say never let someone minimize you so that they can “supersize” themselves.  The truth of the matter is that we have two natures, the Spiritual Side and the Carnal Side.  The scriptures above tell us that there is a constant warring in us, it helps us to better understand that sometimes the things we do are just our flesh taking over.  Just like you must feed your physical body you must also feed your spiritual body.

In this patch of scripture we find Paul explaining why sometimes it seems that it’s hard to do the right thing..  I mean God has given us free will determinism, so we make the choices to do what we do.  So many times people want to blame it on the devil, but we sometimes give the devil too much praise and credit.  When we learn to be honest about the matter and say I did it because I wanted to satisfy my flesh.  We all sin, the bible tells us in Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; because none of us were born saved. So now understanding that we sometimes make the wrong decision we come to the place where we can ask ourselves the subject question “Oh Wretched Man That I Am – Can God Use Me.

Well first we must make a conscious choice to accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.  10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.   But this is only the beginning, you must then get into the bible classes being offered where you worship or at a bible teaching institute.  You must start feeding your spiritual man, the inner man, the part of you where the Holy Spirit resides.  Will you still mess up, yes but everyday should be better than the day before.  You see when you feed your spiritual man; you become more conscious of the choices you make.  You no longer just willfully sin because you know that you have made a Commitment to God to live according to His word.  We are told in Hebrews 12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, 2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.  If you know that you are being held in bondage by the decisions you are making then stop making those same decisions.  Why continue to make the same decisions and look for something different, it doesn’t work that way.  When you want to see a change then you must first make a change.

So to make it plain, if Jesus who came to earth, died and was rose again and now sits at the right hand of the throne of God making intercession for you what is it that is so bad about you that you cannot be used of God.  Oh Wretched Man That I Am – Can God Used Me. I contend that the answer is yes.  Look at what we are told in Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

Can I prove that God can use you, well Iet me start by giving some examples of some not so perfect people that God used.

God used Abraham, even though he and Sarah thought they were too old to parent a child together.

God used Moses, even though Moses was a stutterer.

God used Jacob and Jacob was a trickster.

God use Noah who was a drinker.

God used David who was an adulterer.

God used Rahab who was a harlot.

God used Paul who was previously a murderer of the Christian People.

The point that I am trying to make, is this, we are all ex-something.  None of us are perfect but as we grow in our relationship with God and we are willing to be a Living Sacrifice to be used of God for God’s Glory then yes, Wretched Man God CAN use you.

*Please note that Man is being used but it applies to both men and women… you can be used by God.*

The Marriage Bed is Undefiled

This month we are going to take a look at the “Marriage Bed”, first thing is to realize it is more than just the Physical Bed that you share.  One of the major problems we have is stripping the marriage bed to only meaning physical pleasure/activities.  In your free time please read Ephesians chapter 5 and I Corinthians chapter 7.  So let’s take a look at marriage.

Proverbs 18:22 Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the Lord.

This scripture shows us that it is a good thing for a man to find a wife.  It is up to the man to seek a woman that he can take as his wife.  The women are not supposed to be the one chasing after a man; it’s supposed to be the other way around.  Ladies he is supposed to find you, and realize that you are a god thing.  We understand that as women we are precious in the sight of God.  We are not just a piece of meat to be used and abused.  Baby when you realize your worth you will stop setting for just anything.

Both Genesis 2:24 and Matthew 19:5 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife and they shall be one flesh.

Matthew 19:6 Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh.  What therefore God hath joined together, let no man put asunder.

What happens in a marriage is you have two imperfect beings, coming together in one union.  The two becomes one, because that now becomes your next of kin.  You now become each other’s immediate family and you are the first person that people come to when an important decision needs to be made about the other.  It is the two of you becoming as one, and everyone else needs to know their place.  Neither of you are supposed to let anyone disrespect the other; nor should you involve everyone into your “marriage bed”.   Beware of whom you share your problems with concerning your marriage.  For instance why should you as a wife go to a single bitter girlfriend with anything that is going on in your marriage?  Or for the men, why would you go to your “boy” who you know is a womanizer and share anything about your wife with him.  No you should pray and ask God who you can trust to seek counseling from.  The truth of the matter is that when one hurt you both hurt and for this reason you need someone who is going to give you good sound advice.  Someone who will take you to the Word of God and remind you what God says about marriage.

Ephesians 5:21 Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God..

This is one scripture that it seems everyone forgets about.  This scripture says submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.  The best example I can give you is as follows:

My Pastor’s wife is a Prophetess/Minister, therefore, when God is using her, he must submit unto the will of God and ensure he does whatever is necessary for her to have the time to prepare and even carry out the assignment that God has given her.  It does not take away from Pastor as the head of the household; it just shows that he recognizes the Will of God is above his own Will.

Ephesians 5:22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands as unto the Lord.  23:  For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church, and he is the saviour of the body.

The husband is the head of the house, as Christ is the head of the Church.  This does not mean that women are inferior to men it means that with God everything is done in decency and order.  Adam was created first then Eve was created to be his help meet.  Not to walk behind him but to walk along side of him.  Not to be under his foot but to walk beside him.

Ephesians 5:28 So ought men to love their wives as they love their own body.  He that loveth his wife loveth himself.

Men you are told to love your wives.  Nowhere in the bible will you find where the Lord told the Women to love their husbands, because Women were created with an innate ability to love unconditionally.  So the men are told to love your wives.  If you love her you will show it through action and not just words.  For Love is an action word.

Ephesians 29:  For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:

You will cherish her; you will not beat on her.  You will not berate her; you will not nor will you allow anyone else to abuse her physically, mentally or emotionally.    You are supposed to be her protector, the covering for her.  You will realize she is a gift from God and that she is precious.  Ladies, he should not be calling you anything that he wouldn’t want his mother, daughters or sisters being called.  I feel the need to say this if you are in an abusive relationship, you must remember that God did not make you to be a punching bag for anybody (this goes for males and females).

Hebrews 13:4 Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled:  but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.

This scripture says it all.  Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled:

When you live your lives according to the word of God you won’t have to worry about your bed being defiled.  It’s only when you bring in those outside influences, those perversions and/or step outside of your marriage that YOU are defiling your marriage bed.  Your marriage bed is whatever you do in your marriage.  It’s the intimacy that you share when you are sitting in a room full of people and only the two of you see something that makes you smile.  It is on those long walks that you take holding hands that makes the world seem to stand still.  It’s the decisions that you make as husband and wife concerning your household and your children.  Marriage is honorable in the sight of God and the Marriage Bed is undefiled.  Be careful of what you do and how your treat each other.

MAY

First I would like to start off by saying Happy Birthday to Raven, this is your birthday month and I pray this year will be even better than last year, if that is possible.

Are you Living Your Life with Purpose, moving towards your Destiny?

In your free time please read the entire chapter of Romans 12 but for this column I would like to focus on the following scriptures….

We all are born with a purpose that leads to the fulfilling of destiny that has been assigned to our lives by God.  However, it is not until we accept Christ as our Savior that the gifts to carry out our assignments are released.  Why you may be wondering, well because the gifts are for the body of Christ.  There are many gifts but only one Body and each gift is needed.  When we were created God put everything is us that we would need in order to reach our destiny, however, he also gave us free will determinism.  It is the free will determinism that the gifts are not allowed immediately.  After our gifts are released then we must receive the proper training in how to use it in the Body of Christ, unfortunately, too many people look at their gift(s) and wrongly feel like their gift is not as important as someone else’s this is not true.  You are to use your gift to the Glory of God, don’t worry about other people's gift because they need you to operate in your proper place in order for them to operate in their proper place.  By the same token you should not think that you gift is any better than anyone else, because all gifts from God are important.

Romans 12:3 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.  4 For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office:  5 So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.  6 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith;  7 Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching;  8Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.   So whatever your gift(s) remember it is important and it is needed..  If you are the hand be the best hand, if you are the foot be the best foot.  Remember only what you do for Christ will last.

I remember the first time my Pastor asked me what was my Purpose in life.  I knew I held the office of the Evangelist so I was like ok I can do this and that I have a gift in teaching.

So I started my paper with the following statement:

My purpose in life is to proclaim the word of God through the office of the Evangelist and ensure that everyone have an opportunity to learn of the Good News that Jesus died,

was buried and resurrected so that they could have life more abundantly.

I went on and on, and of course was shocked when I received my paper back with a message in Red Ink give me more.  I thought give him more, how much more could he want.  So I re-wrote the paper and received the same message.  Now mind you this is what we do, we as humans take something and make it so complicated because we need to sound so profound with what we are saying.  My Pastor had already told us that our Purpose is something that we already do, but we just need to pray and find out what it is.  I was baffled, I didn’t understand exactly what I was doing wrong.  So then I went to a conference and guess what – that’s right they had a forum that was talking about living your life through your purpose to reach your destiny…  Now this is a conference that for approx. 15 years I had been requesting to attend.  My supervisor, throughout those years, kept denying my request.  So here I am in this conference, that my new supervisor approved the first request and this is a forum.   I was thinking wow just like God to send me when I would get what I needed most.  The facilitator started speaking about how we should look at our lives as a Tree, the roots is our foundation (the word of God), the trunk is our Purpose and the limbs are the different aspects of our gift(s) destiny…. So when I returned home, one day I started sketching a tree and it came to me what my purpose was…. I laughed out loud, and I went to the computer pulled up a picture of a tree.  Unfortunately the picture of the beautiful tree will not copy here, but let me tell you what my purpose turned out to be.

The Branches represents my gifts:  Evangelism; Teacher; Writer; Women's Ministry; Exhortation.

The Trunk represents my purpose - Which is Communication - Getting the Word of God out.

My roots on which my foundation is built - The Word of God II Timothy 4:2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine.

The scripture is the scripture God used to confirm my calling into the Ministry.  God Bless...

Hebrews 12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

WHEN LETTING GO SEEMS TO BE IMPOSSIBLE

This month’s column is about the importance of Letting Go. In our lives, we sometimes find ourselves in a quandary because we are carrying along extra baggage. Baggage such as past hurts that stems from Family to Friends. Even in the Christian World there are people that find themselves hurting, or even being hurt by other Christians. Well the truth of the matter is that we are human and we are bound to make mistakes. However, compounding those mistakes by not being able to Let Go is one of the worse things we could ever do. It is something about not forgiving others that begins to eat away at us. We find ourselves beginning to suffer illnesses that were never there before, illnesses such as High Pretension, Diabetes, Migraine Headaches; the list goes on and on.

The sad thing about it is that we have what we need in order to release some of those issues. But we are either too stubborn, or to selfish, and even to self-righteous to take the first step. Now what I mean by this is you must realize that the enemy of us all is watching and whenever there is a little crack he will continue to ease himself in until the door is wide open. For instance, some of us find ourselves caught up in generational curses. What I mean by this is that your family (let’s call them the Smiths) has been mad and feuding with another family (lets call them the Jones) for years. Why? Well if you follow the trail back to the beginning of it all you will see nine times out of ten it was something minor that caused the big fall out. Maybe Papa Jones parked in Papa Smith’s parking space and the feud was on. Now I know this maybe over exaggerating things but you will be surprised at how such small things can bring so much turmoil.

The reason for this is because the enemy picked up on that little mole hill and turned it into a giant mountain. That’s his job, there is never a possibility of the devil ever being unemployed because he always does his job and always seems to find someone to help him. So because of this the children of one family are raised to feud with the children of the other family, so you now have 3 generations of families feuding with each other. This is the wrong way to raise your children, because truth be told angry parents raises angry children. Let’s look at what the Word of God says about how we should raise our children. Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. We have an obligation to give our children a good foundation, and that foundation is based on the Word of God. Now maybe this wasn’t your situation at all.

Maybe your situation began after you became an adult, but the hurt and pain you suffered, was so much that Letting Go of it Seemed Impossible. This is also a dangerous place to be, because if you have children, you must make sure you are not training them according to your feelings. Also, when you carry around that extra baggage, it is blocking you from receiving blessings that are yours. When you are angry with someone, and you can’t seem to forgive them, you are in a case of emotional, mental and maybe even spiritual bondage. I say this because every time that person enters into a place where you are, your entire focus is on that person. That is giving the person so much control and authority over you and the person may not even know what he or she has done to offend you. I once had someone offended by a saying I used to say, but until she told me how it made me feel, I could not correct my actions. I immediately apologized to her and explained if she does not tell the people something was offensive to her, then how can she expect them to make it right. The Word tells us; in Matthew 18:15 Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother. See you must make the first move for reconciliation, however, if that brother or sister (because you know the Word means your sisters as well), refuses to hear you then in verses 16-17 it tells you how to proceed from there. By the same token, if a brother or sister comes to you and say you have offended them, you should apologize and ask for forgiveness. It does not matter whether you feel you have done anything to offend anyone or not because it’s not about you. It is about making sure that you are not the cause of someone getting caught up in a web of un-forgiveness.

I understand that it is a process to forgive, but you must make a conscious effort to try, even to know when you cannot do it and go to God and ask him to take it away. I can best tell the story by using myself as the example; I had an incident where I thought there was no way I could ever forgive the person. I went for years walking around angry, every time I walked into a room where that person was I would get mad all over. I would not even speak to that person. Then I was asked to speak at a program in Church where the very scripture being used here was part of my topic. When I starting doing research for the paper, the Holy Spirit spoke to me and said “How can you say you love me when you don’t even speak to your earthly father.” This cut me to my core and I found myself praying and asking God to teach me how to forgive my father. You see I was so filled with hurt and anger that it was slowly but surely turning into hate. I was finding myself being fueled by that anger, which is the wrong place for anyone to be, yet I was going to church every Sunday and considering myself living a life for Christ. When the Holy Spirit spoke to me I was reminded of the scripture found in I John 4:20 If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?

After praying and asking God to show me how to forgive my father, I began to see a change; I would be lying if I say it was overnight but gradually it happened. Before I knew it, I was able to not only hold a conversation with my father but I was able to pray for him as well. I realized a sense of Liberty and I praised God for it because it was only God that could take that hurt and anger away. You see forgiveness is not necessary for the other person it is for us, it releases in us space that can be filled with More of God and his Holy Spirit. It releases us from undue bondage. It helps to ensure that we do not find ourselves in situations of depression, disillusionment, despondency, doubt, disappointment and or even despair. Yes when you Let Go you will find yourselves living a healthier and fulfilling life; living a life of Liberty. You will find yourselves, teaching your children, grandchildren, nieces and even nephews about living a life and love. You will find yourselves smiling even when there seemingly is nothing to smile about. You will find yourselves with less stress than what you were used to carrying. Your baggage cart will not be as heavy as you were accustomed it to being.

So today let’s began anew, LET GO OF THE THINGS THAT SEEMS IMPOSSIBLE AND LET GOD carry you through. God Bless You…

March 2009

Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

The Topic for this month is “Intimacy With God”

When we speak of Intimacy unfortunately the first thing that comes to mind is “Physical Pleasure” but there is more to intimacy than just the Physical Aspect. Don’t get me wrong that is an important aspect to married couples but before you even get there, you need to know that you can have an Intimate Relationship with God. Let’s review what I mean by this.

In any relationship "Trust" is a very important aspect, the same is true with our relationship with God. Another important aspect needed with our relationship with God is "intimacy" (one on one relationship). Now I know someone is saying "how can I have intimacy with God" well I'm glad you ask. In any relationship it needs at least two to make it a relationship. We walk around looking for Love in all the wrong places when the truth of the matter is we were created out of God's Love for us.

God loved us so much that he took the time to create us in His image and likeness as well as with a desire for Intimacy with us. The same way God walked with Adam he wants to walk with us. After the fall of Adam and Eve I’m sure it grieved God’s heart because the relationship with Adam was then changed. The intimate walks in the Garden were no more, because disobedience had come into play. Just like God walked with Adam he wants to walk in the Gardens of our lives with us, just as he called out to Adam daily, he is calling out to us. He is an all knowing God and He knew we would need a "Plan of Redemption" so he gave His only begotten Son "Jesus" so that we would have a chance at eternal life (John 3:16).

How can you get to this place in your life, well first you must accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior. Romans 3:23 tells us that all have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God. God’s word also tells us in Romans 6:23 that the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life. Move a little further down to Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. But after you accept Jesus, you are not supposed to say I accepted Jesus and that's all I have to do. Not at all, you must work on your relationship and develop an "intimacy with God".

How do you accomplish this? Well you must feed your Spiritual Body with the Word of God and you must Pray. Prayer is the tool and Faith is the key to unlock the doors that will allow for Intimacy with God. What I am trying to tell you is that until you experience true love, the love that caused God to give his only begotten son Jesus for us. The kind of love that says I know you’ve messed up but I’ll forgive you, even when you have trouble forgiving yourself. The Kind of Love that will give you peace that surpasses all understanding. The kind of Love that says I know what man looks at you and say but I see your heart. The kind of Love, where no matter where you are, God’s Love will come to you.

I am talking about an Intimacy with God. I’m talking about an intimacy where God is the first one you greet in the morning and the last one you talk to at night. I’m talking about an intimacy where all you have to do is think it and he knows your thoughts. I’m talking about an intimacy where you can tell Him all about your day and know that he is embracing you. I’m talking about an intimacy where when you find your burdens are too heavy to continue to carry, and Jesus is standing there saying Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. (Matthew 11:28-30) I am talking about an intimacy like you’ve never experience before. An intimacy with the one who created you, the one that knows how many hairs are on your head, the one who knows your beginning and your end. I’m talking about true intimacy, where the Lord is the Desire of your Heart.

From Rejection to Royalty
(A Divine Restoration)

Each and every one of us comes to a place in our lives where we realize that something must change. It’s inevitable whether we act on it or not, we walk around carrying old baggage and thinking it’s got to be something better to life. Or we are just in denial, thinking that everything is exactly the way WE orchestrated it to be. I am reminded of the conversation that Jesus had with Nicodemus, where he told him he must be born again (John 3). Nicodemus, who was a teacher in Israel, came to Jesus at night to question him. It was clear that he did not understand what Jesus was speaking about; Jesus went on to explain to him that he must be spiritually born again.

We are told in Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. This is where the shift from rejection (lost in sin) to royalty (you become a Child of God) begins because once you accept Jesus as your Savior you are indwelt with the Holy Spirit and a divine restoration is birthed. Yet we must realize it is not an overnight change. For all the years you have been doing things one way, that will change because you will start wanting to do things God’s way. We must also remember that we are the ones God chose not the other way around for before the foundation of the earth God knew who he had chosen.

A brief look at Joseph’s life will help us gain a better understanding of why it takes time for us to come from rejection to royalty and that a divine restoration is a process. When Joseph was pushed into a pit and sold by his brothers, he was 17 years old (Genesis 37); by the time he was elevated to a position of power by Pharaoh, he was 30 years old (Genesis 41:46). It took thirteen years from the time of his arrival in Egypt and his promotion to the second highest office in the land. Joseph was not an overnight sensation; he was a work in progress.

January 2009

As a Christian I always hear people say, they didn’t have enough time to do this, or they didn’t have enough time to do that. I hear them say they wish they would have told someone who didn’t make it to see today they loved them, or about God and his Mercy. So it’s January 2, 2009, and the fact that you are here shows that God has once again showed you Favor by allowing your time to roll on just a little bit longer. So what are you going to do with this New Gift? Every year for New Year’s Day people make New Year Resolutions, but they only last about 3 months if that long. The question I pose to you is WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO WITH YOUR NEW GIFTS? The gift of being allowed to see another year begin, the gift of having yet another day to say AMEN, the gift of additional Grace and Mercy, the gift of your Salvation, the list goes on and on.

The gift that no matter what you know it was given out of Love, because our very existence was created out of LOVE, can I prove it you say. Well let’s go to Genesis chapter 1, here we see the Love of God by reading the following verses 26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

Out of everything that God created, he took the time to create you and me in His Own Image and after His Likeness and gave us dominion of the earth. Now yes that was given away by Adam in the Garden, but then we read even after that God showed us love and made a way for us to be reconciled to him. John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

So again I ask you what are you going to do with your gifts. Are you going to sit down on the gifts and now share them with anyone, and then find yourself next year in the same dilemma? Or are you going to say today I’m going to make a difference, I’m going to share the Gift of God with people I come in contact with. I’m going to live my life according to God’s word so that when people see me they know who my Father is.

A little about the Author – Sylvia A. Anderson

First and foremost I want to be known as a Child of God and I try to allow myself to be seen in that light. Why! Well because I feel that the most important event in my life was when I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior and received my Salvation. Also I understand that I may be the only Bible that some people will read. So with that being said, I will attempt to tell you a little more about me…..

When I was asked to write this Bio I had to reflect and to think about it. I had to pray and wonder what I could tell the people about me. Well the best place to start is by telling a portion of my testimony so that you will know why I LOVE GOD so much. I was brought up in the church however; I did not know the importance of having a “Personal Relationship with God”. I lived my life and 13 years ago, I felt this tug on me where I had to find God. Now understand I knew God existed because as I stated I was raised in the church and all through my young adult life people were always asking me if I was an Evangelist to which I stated “NO”.

One morning I woke up with this powerful urge that I had to go to church, I was married with three small babies. At the same time of the urging seemed like I was carrying the world on my shoulder, so much so that I could not take my babies with me to church. This was an attack of the enemy because he had literally peeked into my future and he knew if I found my way back to God he could hang it up. So I would try and get ready for church, but found it hard to find something to wear. I mean I worked everyday and wore dresses 90% of the time but when I started looking for something to wear to church all I would see was big spots on my dresses. The result would be that I would put on pants and then when I got in the car, this horrible headache would start. The people in the car would literally have to pray for me and we would go to church.

Moving forward, then one night I had a dream where I had a drug experience. Now mind you I have never experienced with any hard drugs, but in my dream it was Crack Cocaine that the enemy tried to use to keep me on his side. I sat in my bed and cried out Jesus if you let me get out of here today, you will not have to worry about me anymore. That morning after accepting Jesus as my Lord and Savior in my bedroom I went to church and officially joined the Body of Christ. I had a hunger and a thirst for the Word of God like I’ve never had before. Growing up I had always been afraid of the book of Revelation, but after accepting Jesus as My Lord and Savior it was the first book of the Bible that I read in its entirety.

Today I am a licensed evangelist at the Memorial Tabernacle Baptist Church, Philadelphia, PA under the leadership of Pastor A. Marcus Coston. I am married to a wonderful man and we are the parents of four children.

I am the author of the monthly inspirational column entitled Divine Pearls of Wisdom at www.bigdaddiproductions.com where also, you can hear a word of encouragement from me on the 4th Sunday of the month from 4 pm to 6 pm. I would never forget the day God confirmed my calling to the office of the Evangelist, through his word (2 Timothy 4:1 I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; 2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine. 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; 4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. 5 But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.
